I have a document with 2 Master Pages.
Master Page A - Contains Primary Text Frames linked to each other in Facing Pages (MP01.png)
Master Page B - Contains Primary Text Frames (2 columns) linked to each other in Facing Pages (MP02.png)
In Preference I have disabled Smart Text Reflow. (PREF.png)
When I place the text, it places only on Page number 1 and then two and then it skips all odd pages. (PLACED.png)
What am I doing wrong?
Screenshot attached.
I need Primary Text Frame becasue it adapts to layout changes easily. Some of my pages have multiple text frames. I have not created Master Pages yet. (screenshot not attached)
Actually this part of InDesign (multiple text flow) always confuses me and I have to do all the text flow manually. 😞
Thanks
Thanks for sending the screenshot and the idml file.
When I add a spread in your document after page 1, then link the out port from the first page to the in port of the second page, text will not flow through to the third page.
However when I removed all the pages except page 1 in your document and place new pages, then link the out port from the first page to the in port of the second page, the text flows through to the third page as expected.
Can you describe your steps in creating the pages and

Hi shahidr100,
can you show the next spread (pages 2 & 3)? Are the text frames threaded on the spread?
Better yet, can you share the INDD file?

@Thunder-Lightning First of all, sorry for late reply. I was out of town and had no access to PC.
I am attaching a screenshot of pages 2-3 as you asked.
They are not threaded on the spread. But I have threaded them in masterpage. Ideally it should be threaded.
Thanks.

If you just want to fix your document, I would suggest that you turn on the Smart Text Reflow, do what I did on my second attempt.

@Thunder-Lightning Thanks for the reply.
This is the process which I followed:
a. On master page A, I created 2 text frames for left side and right side.
b. Made them Primary.
c. Linked them
d. On document page 1 I have a text frame on pasteboard with matter on it.
e. I loaded the cursor from that text frame.
f. Shift clicked on Page 1 so that the text flows automatically.
But if I enable smart text flow, all works fine.
The reason for not enabling smart text flow is that I want to use another text thread. Meaning, in one page
there will be 2 separate text threads. One will be Primary and the other will be normal as we cannot have 2 primarys on same page.
To get my job done what I am doing now is to enable the Smart Text flow, flow the matter of primary text frame.
Then disable smart text flow and then again flow another text thread.
Note: In near future, I have a scenario where I will have to use 3 separate text threads. So I wanted to save myself from enabling and disabling Smart Text Flow.
Thanks

Hi @Bedazzled532,
When I did shift-click from page 1, InDesign flows the text in new text frames on both the odd and even pages but not into the primary text frames. Is that what you get, or only the even pages of the primary text frame?

In order to get the text to flow into the primary text frame, I removed the local overrides on page 1. I then did as you have done and shift-click on a text frame on the pasteboard to flow the text into page 1, and now the text is in the primary text frame. However, as in your supplied InDesign document, from page 1 the text flows into the primary text frame of the even pages only.
It looks like doing the shift-click is not possible to get what you would like to achieve in this scenario.

@Thunder-Lightning I think you are right. Shift click and not possible here.
In fact enabling Smart Text reflow would be a better option.
Thanks for your support.

Yes I am getting text in normal frame and not Primary Text frame.
