The header of this document was created by someone else. I want to change the color of the drop shadows. I was able to figure out how to do it for the white box (Object>Effects>DropShadow>Color & Multiply). However I cannot figure out where the black shadow under the # sign and the number are coming from. They are both live, editable text, but there is no drop shadow effect applied to them.
I'm attaching a link to a packaged up version of this page in case you want to look inside.
Select the frame that has the #7 in it, then open the Effects panel. The drop shadow is applied to the text at the frame level.

Without looking at the document, have checked to see if it's just a duplicated object?

My first guess was that it was a white number on top of a black number, slightly offset. But there is no grouping, and deleting or editing the white one changes the black one as well, so I don't think that is the case.

With the text box selected, When you chose Object > Effect > Drop Shadow, look at the top of the dialog. It says Settings for: Object. Change that drop-down to Setting for: Text.
that is where that shadow is defined.

Please start a new thread.
We'll probably need to look at your file, too.

I figured it out. the color change was a black box in the effects window. clicked it and got the color wheel. for a corona effect on a planet. Thank you.

It's a subtle but important point to remember that effects can be applied at several levels. At the most basic, they can be applied separately to a frame and to the content of the frame. This can be used to create complex compound effects, or apply two effects without them colliding... or it can get confusing when you try to sort out old work or someone else's.
