QR Codes, can someone explain the different "Types"

Contributor ,

Hi,

I have always created QR Codes using the default Type: Plain Text.

Is there an explanation as to what the unique functions of other "Types" are?

For example, I really just want the QR code to bounce scanners to a webpage and want to be sure I'm using the correct 'Type'.

Thanks for any clarification.

I would think you'd want "web hyperlink". Be sure to put the FULL URL . That is, in a web browser you can type

www.example.com

but that's not a full URL. You must type

https://www.example.com

(or whatever) including the colon and two slashes. Don't use http: sites, they might be blocked as insecure.

Above all - test your codes with multiple devices/scanners. If it's printed, size and quality choices can make it unreadable.

Yep:  https://nitrosyncretic.com/DPR/dpr_qrcodes.php.

The short form is that all QR codes are pretty much the same thing, a text string embedded in the code itself. You can use Plain Text — in fact, you can do more with the Plain Text mode than any of the canned ones — but for simple URL codes, the web/URL form will make sure the string is prefaced with a valid type code. The other options in the ID feature simply do the text encoding for you.

Many, many details in the primer above. You can even jump right to it with this:
