Hello,
I'm looking for a way to add revision lines on the right margin. The lines are a part of the final product. Any help would be really appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by "revision lines?"

They are vertical lines on the right margins that denote a change and alert the reader that someone changed. They are often used in documents that undergo periodic revisions. Hope it helps!! thanks.

Hi Julie,
Take a look at Paragraph Shading and Borders under the Options menu of the Paragraph panel.
Create a Paragraph Border that is on just one side of the selected paragraph.
See screenshot below.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Definitely helpful for full paragraphs, but it doesn't seem to pick up when I need a change for only one sentence. However, this is the most progress I have been able to do in weeks 🙂
THANK YOU!

Julie, InDesign already does this. The only catch is that the change bars are only visible in the Story Editor (Edit > Edit in Story Editor). InDesign's Track Changes Preferences also allow lots of customization of how text appears when changed.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like Julie wants these line to be printable.

Hello,
There are some commercial plugins that do this.
Track and manage text changes in InDesign and InCopy - CtrlSoftware
And a plugin that my company is responsible for.
EditMarks Change / Side Bars - Kerntiff Publishing Systems

Hi Julie:
Adobe's other page layout application—FrameMaker—offers both automatic revision lines that appear as you edit, as well as via paragraph and character styles. You could easily add the lines manually via styles in InDesign—and let us know if you need a hand—but if this is important to you, consider putting in a feature request for automatic revision lines in layout view here: Adobe InDesign Feedback.
Once posted, come back here and add a link so that others with the same interest can hop over and vote it up.

Hi Barb,
You are right about FrameMaker, and I tried to download the program and start playing with it but I have an issue with the download, so I will wait a few days before I try again. However I did post the feedback, so well see!! thanks again.

Hi Julie:
If you have issues with the Framemaker download (or on how to use it) you can ask us over here: Adobe FrameMaker

Hi Pickory :
It is, but I have run Windows on my Macs for years, because I use FrameMaker daily and offer training on it as well. I went with VMWare Fusion to set up a virtual machine, but there are other alternatives.
