Scaling proportionally with Shift no longer works as expected in InDesign 2025 (v20.5 on macOS 26.0)

New Here ,

Hello!

Since updating to InDesign 2025 (v20.5), the behavior of scaling objects proportionally with the Shift key has changed. In previous versions, holding Shift while dragging a corner handle would keep the proportions. Now, proportions are kept by default, and pressing Shift breaks them.

I don’t use any antivirus or custom keyboard layout. I’ve read that this issue can sometimes be related to third-party software such as antivirus tools, but that’s not the case here.

Do you know if there’s a solution?

Thanks!

Can't reproduce it. Try these general troubleshooting steps:

Plus, this issue can be caused not only by antivirus but by some random 3rd-party apps. Try to start your Mac in safe mode - will it make a difference:

This is a long shot, I know, but this is how Photoshop works:

Now, proportions are kept by default, and pressing Shift breaks them.

No chance you were working in Photoshop and didn't recognize it?

I don't think this behavior has changed. I just tested this to make sure I am right.

OS 13.7.8 (Ventura)

InDesign 2024 (19.5.5) and InDesign 2025 (20.5)

Dragging the corner with no other keys selected resizes the frame non-proportionally, but not the content (unless you have "auto-fit" selected).

Shift-drag resizes the frame proportionally, but does not resize the content

Command+Shift-drag resizes the frame and the content

Maybe it has something to do with the new macOS? I can't test that. I'm not brave enough to move beyond Ventura, where everything is working 🙂
