Can I bring in and edit the above, similiar to Acrobat DC ?

Can you elaborate? What are you looking to do?

I assume you are talking about Acrobat's ability to OCR a scanned image? In which case, no, not a thing InDesign does. But since you DO have Acrobat, use it to do the dirty work then export the results as a text/Word file, then import into ID. Also:  there are converters that can do a pseudo conversion from PDF to ID; that could get you on the way to yor final goal.

In DC you can bring in a page from an old book and change the font, edit the text etc. I was thinking ID did similar but get a more polished end product?

In InDesign you could make a new page (from scratch) which could certainly be more professional if you are trained in InDesign. You can use the book page as a model. You could even use a scanned page with pictures, cover all the scanned text, and retype all the text.
