iMac 24" M1 Monterey v12.5 Memory 16 Gb
Work folders on Desktop back-up to iCloud
InDesign v17.3
Since upgrading from a MacBook Pro laptop to the iMac, documents, such as a simple 4pp A4 leaflet with one or two images (no problem finding links), can take up to 30 seconds to open. Now I can't remember exactly how long a similar doc would take to open on the old laptop (which wasn't backed up to iCloud) but wasn't aware, as I am now, of any particular lag.
I mention the fact that it's an iMac and backed up to iCloud, just in case this may have a bearing on it.
It would be helpful if anyone has thoughts on this.
Michael
Also if you are opening directly from iCloud that is going to take time to resolve links and cause issues while working. You should be dragging local to open, then save and drag back to iCloud to backup.

So the InDesign doc should temporarily ā whilst being worked on ā saved to my hard drive and then copied back to the iCloud Documents folder? It's undoubtedly compounded by a less than ideal Wi-Fi connection.

Yes. Especially if you have an unstable network connection. InDesign is very sensitive to that.
