Stacking order of paragraph styles in InDesign

Hello,

I have a paragraph style with a rule and is followed by another paragraph style that has an outline. The two lines generated by the two paragraph styles are intersecting, but they're not stacked in the correct order (as visible in the image attached below). Is there a way to control the stacking order of elements generated by paragraph or character styles?

Thanks in advance.

What version of InDesign are you using?

If you're using recent versions of InDesign CC, you should be able to accomplish the correct stacking order using the Paragraph Border and Shading features:

Hi LiviuLungu ,

the stacking order is the right one, which means the stacking order is showing as this feature was designed by the engineers.

There is no bug with that. You could request a feature modification at InDesign UserVoice.

An obvious workaround perhaps:

1. Anchor a text frame with the word "HEADING".

2. Not very flexible: Type the paragraph with "HEADING" after the other paragraph and apply a big amount of baseline shift perhaps.

Like I did in this example below with 43 Pt baseline shift:

Here were the settings I used for the Heading:

And the outlined text:

Hi Steve,

look into your screenshot.

The border obscures the shading in "HEADING".
