Table & Fonts Issue

New Here ,
Jun 20, 2018 Jun 20, 2018

Hi... So I have this large book I do that is around 66 pages and 2800 rows of product items. In the last few months I've been having this issue where near the end I start to have some of my fonts say they are deactivated (I'm not able to choose them anymore but yes they are actually activated in my font program). I tried a system font and it still did it. It either shows a font is not available with the pink background or I get a bunch of gibberish. I've re-created my file thinking something was wrong with the file is wrong but I keep getting this weirdness. If I quit Indesign and go back in it changes and is fixed or other text is gibberish or not available. But weirdly enough if I scroll up to the first pages the text is fine and show fine. Just the stuff near the end of the document is gibberish. I can't do it in small sections too. Has to be all in one flowing table.

I'll also note I can't make a PDF either of this file.

Hi leilawww,

I'm sorry you ran into trouble here. I wanted to check if your having issues with Typekit fonts or are these locally installed fonts? If they're Typekit fonts, I'd like to figure out what's going on.

Let me know and we'll take it from there.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Not typeset as I installed fonts via Suitcase Fusion. I also had installed them on my Mac directly as well. Both ways don't work. I've been doing this mostly for years and it's just in the past few months I've had issues.

When exporting a PDF I tried it after I first placed the table in. Worked fine. I go in and have to change some items to bold and generally do some editing to the table itself. After all that I couldn't export a PDF.

Hi Ben

I just tried changing all fonts to TypeKit fonts and it still has this same problem. I'm very frustrated and not sure what to do. This job should have gone to the printers last week and I'm at a standstill. I changed all fonts to the new ones and when I tried to go into my master pages, the font I wanted to use said it was unavailable.

I had something very similar thing happen when I mistakenly pasted text formatted using the OpenType version of Helvetica into a layout using the Postscript version of Helvetica. Gibberish is a great description of the result

We've had similar font problems at our studio.

Seems to be a conflict with TypeKit and fonts that are traditionally installed on our workstations that are not managed by TypeKit.

Coincided with us having traditional fonts for some weights in a family and then TypeKit controlling other weights in the same family. All fonts were OpenType.

We deactivated TypeKit and don't see the problem any more.

When we need a font, we purchase and install it the traditional way; the benefit to our work is that we're required to embed all fonts into the PDF for accessibility and TypeKit won't let TypeKit fonts be embedded.

Hi Bevi,

I'm sorry you ran into trouble with Typekit in the past. This definitely shouldn't be happening. I wanted to be clear, that you are able to export PDFs with Typekit fonts.

I understand if you're not using Typekit any longer but if you do end up seeing these issues again, please shoot us an email: support@typekit.com and we'll look into it.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Hi Leila,

We are very sorry for the inconvenience. Please try copying the font files into the Fonts folder inside the InDesign application folder on your hard drive.

If it still does not help try steps mentioned in the link below:

Troubleshoot fonts in Adobe applications | Mac OS X

Srishti
