Text anchors moving by themself?

Hey, has anyone had an issue with text anchors moving around?

Example:

Pages 2 to 11 of this simplified prospectus explain general information regarding mutual funds and their risks and tell you who manages the funds. Pages 12 to 69 contain specific information about each of the funds, and pages 70 to 87 contain general information about the funds.

I've set a text anchor at the beginning of page 2, end of page 11, beginning of page 12, end of page 69, beginning of 70 and end of 87, and set-up 6 cross-references linking to these text anchors.

We changed the location of the text anchor from page 87 to page 91, so I opened my document, moved the anchor, made sure this paragraph reflected that, saved and closed. It got sent back as the anchor on page 2 had moved to page 87 and anchor on page 12 had moved to page 70. I ended up having to delete all 6 anchor and cross-references and starting over.

I am using a number of other cross-references in this document, but all pointing to paragraphs, not text anchors, and those all work fine. But every time I've used text anchors they seem to jump around all by themselves.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Your description looks quite complex. Using cross-refs pointing paragraphs works fine.

You know what never give me problems, is using Hyperlink destination in place of anchors.

Where do you find those destinations:

1) Search the hyperlink palet > window > interactive > hyperlinks

2) Set your cursor on the correct spot of your text

3) Go the Hyperlinks palet > side menu > New hyperlink destination

Those destinations will no jump around because they're linked to the place in the text and not linked to the page. Even if you move pages around they will be found.

Good luck

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. I'll try that out and see if it works for us.

Hey Patrick

Inserting a New Hyperlink Destination is the same thing as the Text Anchor I was using, and that's what was moving around on me. Apparently inserting a New Hyperlink Destination can be done from both the Cross-References panel AND the Hyperlink panel.

So a little more info. I set up the following New Hyperlink Destinations:

General_Begin - page 3

General_End - page 10 (end of 1 paragraph)

Specific_Begin - page 10 (start of next paragraph)

Specific_End - page 104 (end of last paragraph on page)

Notes_Begin - page 105 (start of first paragraph on page)

Notes_End - page 120 (end of last paragraph on page)

Then I create cross-references to them in this paragraph on page 3:

This document (the “Simplified Prospectus”) contains selected important information to help you make an informed investment decision and understand your rights as an investor. It is divided into three parts. The first part, from pages 3 to 10, contains general information regarding mutual funds and their risks and tells you who manages the Funds. The second part, from pages 10 to 104, contains specific information about each of the Funds described in this document. The third part, from pages 105 to 120, contains general information about each of the Funds.

To recreate this issue, I moved the Hyperlink Destination from the end of the page on 104 to further up on the page, simulating "oops, I put it in the wrong spot." To move it, I put my cursor in front of the paragraph further up the page, then went to Hyperlink Destination Options. Select Specific_End from the drop down, make sure "Set to current text insertion point" is checked, and click ok.

Then I checked all my cross-references and this is what I have now:

General_Begin - moved from page 3 to page 103

General_End - stayed the same

Specific_Begin - stayed the same

Specific_End - moved further up on page 104 where I put it

Notes_Begin - stayed the same

Notes_End - stayed the same

What the heck?!? I didn't even touch page 103. Why would my anchor move THERE? This makes no sense at all!
