Text Bounding Box is stretching like an object

New Here ,
Apr 10, 2024 Apr 10, 2024

Hello! I noticed that the text bounding box in Indesign's latest version is now "stretchable" when I try to adjust the box size. If you don't know what I'm talking about, basically if you try to shorten or enlarge the box to rearrange the text inside, the text inside will sometimes stretch like a vector. I know I can still do both things by adjusting the box size but I have to keep trying it out because I have no idea what are the commands or the rule. Does anybody know how to remove this feature? Or to at least tell me how it works and what keyboard commands allow me to only adjust the box size and not stretch the text inside?

Thank you!

Hi @Rita R , Which tool do you have selected? It would happen with no modifiers if you have the Free Transform tool (E) selected.

The issue you describe usually can be achieved by holding down the CTRL / CMD key while adjusting the frame.

That only happens for me if I hold the Cmd/Ctrl key. Are you holding the Cmd/Ctrl key? And you are not in Illustrator, accidentally,  ... right?

I'm not holding it. I know it will happen if you hold it but for me it's also happening when I'm not holding it which is weird. And no, I'm not in Illustrator haha thanks Mike

I think it might have been that, I just didn't notice. Because now it's back to normal

I too am having this issue. There doesn't appear to be a way to adjust the box like in old versions and have the text inside the box stay the same size. I'm not using (E), and when I'm done typing and want to adjust the size of the box it switches over to (V). This is cumbersone and very rarely do I want to scale text. How do we undo this (IMHO) useless standard feature?

I'm on Mac, Sonoma 14.5, and using Ai 28.7.1.
