Text Wrap and main text indentation no longer works

New Here ,
Sep 30, 2025 Sep 30, 2025

Without warning InDesign began failing to to flow text around a second text box. At the same time it became impossible to indent a paragraph immediately after some, but not all image caption text boxes. I've used Adobe Cloud to delete and reload InDesign thinking my original had become corrupted but the problem persists.

Hi @michaelo734,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you please confirm which version of InDesign and operating system you are working with? It will also help to know if this behavior is happening in all files or only with certain ones. In the meantime, try resetting InDesign preferences after creating a backup to rule out any corruption in settings: https://adobe.ly/4gOVwrS. Also, please check if the text frames are threaded or anchored. If possible, share a small screen recording of the workflow you follow, so I can check it further.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Thanks for the response. Again, I am a amateur with only one repetitive InDesign project — a newsletter/“magazine” which is issued monthly.

I am using a MacBookPro running Sonoma 14.3 and running InDesign 20.5.

I have now run a test and only one article in this issue has the problem — text frames that are captions under image frames with neither of the frames anchored then failing to allow text in the caption (with a red overflow symbol) and tab or return entry in the main text following the caption text frame.

I’m now wondering if the main text which was given to me as a Word file has some hidden feature that transfers with a simple cut and paste from the Word document.

Mike
