Hello

I am meaning to apply a gradient effect to my selected text - the word TRIBE.

I wish to have a sharp gradient effect on the word TRIBE with the first half of the word in red, and the other half in yellow.

The following are my settings:

Capture.PNG

However, I am unable to get the desired effect:

Can you please help me figure where I'm going wrong with this.

Regards

Your gradient is applied to all your text frame width. Shorten text box width to apply your gradient to word TRIBE.textframe1.png

Or use the Gradient tool with the text highlighted and drag to apply the gradient. The position of the gradient will still be relative to the frame, not the text. Meaning if you change where the text is the gradient won’t move with the text.

Think of the text as being a window you use to view the gradient, but the gradient is actually applies to the text frame. as the text frame moves or is resized the gradient moves and is resized. As the text moves or is reformatted within the frame the window through which you view the gradient moves, but the gradient stays put.

If iyou convert the text to outlines then the gradient will apply to the path created by the text. This is much easier to work with, but you lose the ability to format, edit, or use text styles. But you can use object styles.
