I've read the fixes for the following error:

Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders.

I get stuck at these instructions:

Open the Caches Folder > Open the InDesign folder >

Step 4A:

Open the Preferences Folder > Open the InDesign folder >

There's no InDesign folders in there.

To reset preferences:

For Macintosh Users: With InDesign closed Launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe InDesign” and “com.adobe.InDesign.plist”. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

For Windows Users: On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings (you may not have to do the preceding steps with Windows 10). Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>. Make sure that InDesign is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create  new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

To delete caches:

For Macintosh Users: With InDesign closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire file “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the cache file completely leads to a lasting change.

For Windows Users: On Windows 7 and above the caches files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings (you may not have to do the preceding steps with Windows 10). Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version [version]\Caches.

Thanks for the info, Bill. Sorry, forgot to mention i'm on a new iMac Pro.

Unfortunately, you missing the crux of my problem with deleting "InDesign" files from Preferences and Caches. There are NO InDesign files in these two folders. Can't delete what isn't there.

Ideas?

You are not deleting InDesign files. The folders that you are deleting have preference and cache files which are possibly corrupt. There are not actual InDesign files there.

You advised: find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe InDesign” and “com.adobe.InDesign.plist”

My Preference and Cache do not have either of these files. None related to Adobe InDesign or any other Adobe product.

Also, re the bug fix, that's a Windows problem. On my Mac I have not had any problems with InDesign crashing once I have it installed and am using it.

Nonetheless, InDesign finally opened after a gazillion tries, without rhyme, reason, or further input from me. Software. Go figger.

Thanks for the input, all.

This makes sense, since you have a permission problem. Since there are no files there (assuming you're looking in the right place - I assume you are looking in ~/Library rather than /Library - and assuming they aren't just read only) then you have a permission problem stopping them getting created. So just fix that.

Is your machine regulated by an IT Department which may have hidden those files? Otherwise, they have to be there if you are running Adobe products. If you still want to pursue this please post a screen shot showing your library folder and open preference and cache folders.
