Unable to Reinstall Adobe InDesign CS2 on my computer

Explorer ,
Sep 01, 2017 Sep 01, 2017

I have an older version of InDesign CS2 that I have been using successfully for many years.  I had it installed on an old computer which crashed and had to be replaced. It was installed then on my new computer, but I needed to install it on a separate computer that I have been using which has all of my file that I work with, and for convenience needed to put it on the second computer.  I am unable to do so.  I have a valid serial number that came with the original box. The problem is that Adobe doesn't do Phone Activation anymore, and then they refer you to the website, where you must choose your product, in order to get support. It seems that CS2 is no longer supported.  I am not able to upgrade at this time, and need to get my InDesign documents where I can edit and update them on my other computer.  I have always been able to install it on 2 computers.  I am not sure what all the reasons are now for this dilemma I find myself in, other than that I cannot activate it because of the lack of phone support, as well as being unable to find a place on the website where I can get the right help, because the product is not listed on the choices.  I don't have a main phone number, or know how to reach Adobe so I could get phone help, even if I had to pay for that.  I really don't know what to do, the website appears to be set up so that it is not very helpful unless you have the newer products now.

Please give me some advice on how I can find the help that I need and get my program working again.   I am operating on a deadline and need to have something edited in time for that.

Sorry!

Download Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 products

You keep referring to computers with absolutely no details on those machines. Anything later than Windows XP and you're in unsupported territory. 64 bit will complicate it even further.

I doubt you'll even be able to install it on a new Mac.

HI Bob,

I did finally find that page on the Adobe website, and I downloaded the updated version of CS2 - which they provide for people, because there is an error with the original programs and they don't work on later operating systems.  On this computer I am running Windows 7.  It works for my other programs, although lately I do seem to be having some issues with my Dreamweaver CS4, as well where they code that runs that seems to have gotten corrupted.

But to answer your question - Windows 7.  It tells me that it can't download the new CS2 because it won't run on this computer and this version of Windows, I presume.

I may try to see if I can install the update to my newer computer, but I have not had a chance to do that yet.

I appreciate your answer, and will let you know if I can solve this over the next day or so.

Sorry - correction - I can't install it - I was able to download the updated version of InDesign CS2 - but can't install it - plus it tells me that my serial number is inavlid as well, even though that serial number has worked in the past, and is printed on the side of the CD that came with the box I purchased.

Did you bother to read that entire page? You need to use the new serial number that you’ll find there.

Additionally, if you’re running a 64 bit version of Windows you’re going to have issues with the installation.

The link Bob referred to at the top of the thread:

I've got pretty much the same problem.  I found the link Steve mentions above, and downloaded the InDesign version that matched my original purchase, but I can't find "the serial numbers provided during the download".  I feel like a hopeless newbie to have to ask such a thing, but can someone tell me where it is?

Thanks in advance...

A couple of inches to the right of the download link. On a small screen you might have to scroll right.

Ah, got it!  Yes, my screen's quite small and they were partially obscured.  Many thanks, TSN.  The computer's about 10 years old, running Vista, so no problems with the installation.

You do of course realize that unless that's a real old machine, you're likelihood of success is very very slim.

Hi Steve - and David:

I posted my question about updating my InDesign product on here quite awhile ago at the top of this thread - I guess in September of 2017.  Since I found that link and resolved updating my InDesign CS2 software so it would run on my Windows 7 Professional operating system, and resolved the issue of getting the new serial number to input so it would work, I basically went on and have not checked back on this forum since then.

However, someone emailed me tonight with the same question, asking if I still have the link to the download for the upgrade for InDesign CS2 products.  They said they are getting redirected to the wrong download each time.  I checked back here tonight and see that Steve posted the link above.  When I go to that link, I see that it leads to a download page for Adobe Creative Suite products.  So, I guess my question now is, is there still a download page for people who want to use their old boxed versions of InDesign CS2 on their computers available on theAdobe site?  If not, what can they do?

If someone can please advise me what to tell this other person - or how they can search on the website for the download so they can upgrade their product with a new serial number to run it on their older compter operating system, that would be really helpful.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide,
Jackie Apel

Hi Bob,

I just figured that out - it was the one thing I forgot to do, when I went to download the updated product on the page.  Just an oversight!  I was finally able to install it.  Everything is working again with it - except it would not let me register this product for some reason.  I will try to figure that one out myself.

Thanks very much for your help!  It wasn't that I didn't read it - I was just having a hard time finding it, then trying to download and so forth...

I don't know if the Windows Operating system is 64 bit - I think it is.  I am running Windows Home 7 Premium.

Forget registration. It’s not the same as activation and is completely unnecessary for something this old.

Okay.  Thanks for letting me know.  I appreciate it.  Obviously, I have not updated my programs for a long time - for various reasons - just have not been able to keep up with it all.

I appreciate your help!  I am going to mark this as "resolved."

Have a great day!
