Like the title says I was formatting a book using Garamond which is the font used in the Word Doc.
I had set up the Paragraph Style to use Garamond and had created 17 chapters, Then after taking a break I open a chapter and I get the Dialog Box telling me the fonts are no longer available. I was litterally just using them minutes before
Can someone please explain what's going on and how I can fix it?
Like I said above, it's not that you don't have a Garamond, per se, it's that you don't have the [Garamond] used in the original MSWord document, or that the font you used is unavailable to InDesign. In recent months, that's happened because other applications can still use Postscript fonts and The latest version of InDesign no longer lets you use them.
In either case, you've arrived at the correct answer. Which is to use Garamond Premier Pro, which is an OpenType font that is available to you

There's a subtle sign here that you don't actually have the Garamond font on your system that was applied in the original MSWord document, and you've never been using it in your InDesign document.
When a font appears within brackets, like the [Garamond] indication in your first screen capture, it means that the font attributes applied when you placed it from MSWord called for the font MSWord useed to apply Garamond to the text file, but that you don't have it. If you have the font installed on your system, you can apply your version of Garamond to the placed text, which will then remove the brackets indicating the [Garamond] you don't have has been replaced with the Garamond you do have on your system.
Hope this helps,
Randy

Thanks for the reply, but if that that's the case how was I able to create numerous chapters with Garamond if I didn't have it? and how was I able to have my Paragraph Style set to Garamond. I actually started this project yesterday so I don't understand why I was able to use it and now I can't.
I think I should just replace with Garamond Premier Pro which is installed.
That screenshot was taken after I discovered this problem.

If it's any consolation, I don't know that because I'm Rhodes Scholar bright ... I learned it by making the same error myself.
It's a pretty common mistake, especially as Adobe is phasing out the use of Postscript fonts in its applications. So you've got lots of company.
