Weird issues happening InDesign 22, macOS Sequoia - Text frame, can't save/copy/paste

Here's my main issue:

Working on a file given to me by a client. Want to create a new text box by clicking and dragging text tool like you do. However, instead of that, I get a fixed size frame that won't let me type text in it. If I try to make an image box and click on that to convert to a text frame, it also does allow text inside. I checked for auto-sizing of text frames and that the convert to text frame option is on, everything looks as it should. What gives?

Other issue:

While trying to solve the above, software stops allowing copy/paste or save.

Things I tried:

- Closing and opening InDesign (usually solves the copy/past or save issue)

- Deleting preferences folder

Thoughts?

What are your InDesign and operating system versions?

Had a moment to do a test, new files do not have this issue. So I suppose if I need a solve, I will have to rebuild the file, but that's a multi-hour process, and no guarantees it's not something that will transmit through copy/paste (assuming it allows me to).

Is there an easy way to do a corruption check on an InDesign file?

By "CC 22" do you mean InDesign 2022?

If so, then do you have the same problem in the current InDesign 2025? If you still do need 2022, just make sure to uncheck the option to remove older versions when you install InDesign 2025.

Also, try to export your file as IDML, then open the IDML file and save as a new InDesign file - will it solve the issue?

I am resisting those updates because every company wants to install AI LLM services, and Adobe's TOS allows them to monitor our work to train their AI.

Not sure that isn't ALREADY happening, but I certainly don't want to give their new version that kind of access if I can avoid it.

However, your other suggestion seems good! I've finished the project (worked around by copy-pasting other text frames), but I will do a test later to see. Thanks!

Open the Object Styles panel and see if there is a default style activated. My guess is there is an object style that specifies the size of a text frame or the Basic Text Frame object style has been edited to have a fixed size.

This seems like a good thought in theory, but when I go to test, I don't see anything that relates to the idea of fixed size. I will keep searching, but if you have a specific function in mind that would do this, let me know!

Just went in again and found Text Auto-Size, but no, nothing was set there.
