This will be a 'keep' setting within that paragraph setting. You probably have 'keep lines together > All lines in paragraph' selected.

Thanks so much, keep settings was the problem. When I changed it from 2 to 0 the problem was gone. Much gratitude.

You should keep 2 lines together, otherwise you will get orphans and widows. I think the more serious problem is a keep setting with next or with previous paragraph.

I definitely have orphans and widows. What's the purpose of keeping with next or previous? I am very much an amateur and trying to put together a book.
