Why are there white lines in InDesign preview mode

See attached screenshot, these lines appear in the same place on every spread when viewed in preview mode of InDesign CC 2015 - how do I fix this??

Looks like stitching. Did you use Acrobat 4 compatibility when exporting?

If so, stop! Use 5 or higher.

This is not a pdf, this is happening inside InDesign presentation/preview mode! So confused as to why this is happening. It is happening across all my design docs.

What kind of image is that in the background? PDF? PSD? TIF?

Do the lines go away if you zoom in or out?

It is across all my documents, some use tiffs, some use psd, some use jpegs so it can't have anything to do with the placed files. Also as it is preview mode it is not meant to be zoomed out but rather being on full screen? In face, the mode I have it on when this happens is called 'presentation'

Hi @Bim_H -

I came here looking for an answer to the same question, but in tinkering just figured it out.

Turn off Overprint Preview then try presentation mode again.

I had the exact problem you have in the screenshot. I can replicate it repeatedly now. When Overprint Preview is turned on, white lines. Turn it off, white lines gone. You have to do it outside of presentation mode.

Now in 2021 - you have answered my question, thank you! I've used CS5 for years and years and years and finally upgraded my computer and Adobe to CC in 2021 and came across this annoying "glitch". Now solved - thank you!

I have the same problem when previewing into Adobe InDesign CC 2015.

There is clearly a problem with the output preview mode as you get those thin white lines.

That's a bit boring, let's hope Adobe fix it in next update.

P.S. I've been working 5 minutes with InDesign CC 2015 after installing it and already have issues…

Another problem is the blue lines on text in normal mode (not preview mode) :

So, for the same document, we can have those blue lines in normal mode and white thin lines in preview mode (nice combo !) :

‌wow! Orange as colour on the background... This text is simply unreadable, very bad design. The lines seems graphic card artifacts to me...

The screen capture I uploaded is obviously only text I use for designing other things.

I put the orange fill color to see both white lines and blue lines.

Am I supposed to explain it ?

Yep !

Thank you, when I put 5 points (or 0 point) instead of 7 points for greek type below, the blue lines disappear.

But it's weird as all the text is not concerned. In the screen cap you can see that blue lines seem to appear randomly.

Anyways, the problem concerned here, thin white lines in preview mode, remains…

Unfortunately, there are no changes with InDesign CC 2015.1 and the problem remains.

I found out that if you toggle the visibility of the ruler, these thin lines disappear.

They seem to appear only when the ruler is invisible.

Actually that screen shot shows the problem with white lines which is related to anti-aliasing.

I'm having the exact same issue right now: white lines appearing all over the document, whether you zoom in or out.

The only temporary solutions I know of are: 1) turning on the rulers, or 2) turning off overprint preview.

The problem remains in InDesign CC 2015.2 (11.2.0.99).

It seems there is a problem with rulers…

Yes. Turning on Rulers eliminated the lines for me too.
