I notice a subtle change here from InDesign CC2019 to InDesign 2019. Same with InCopy and Illustrator.

You're correct. There's a little rebranding going on. CC will be dropped from the name now. But I'm glad that Adobe InDesign 2019 is still retained as a way to designate the overall release.

I just tried the v14.0.2 update. The only improvement for me is that InDesign will now open and display a document before crashing.

I'm still using v12.1 for daily work. I was never successful at getting v13 to open without crashing.

That being said, I've had no issues updating the program on my Mac. It's on my Windows 7 system that things are hinky.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have two other members on my team. One has had no issues updating, and the other has the same problems I do. We need to all be working in the same version.

Thanks!

Windows 7, is just about EOL and the next version of ID will not run on it. What are the rest of the system specs?

Hi Karen,

We’re so sorry to hear about this. As you are using windows 7, I just wanted to make sure that you have service pack 1 installed on your machine. If not, please install it from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/15090/windows-7-install-service-pack-1-sp1

For other system requirements please take a look at this help article: InDesign system requirements.

Srishti

Srishti, thanks for your reply. Yes, I have Service Pack 1 installed and I have checked my system requirements against the recommended list you provided and it meets or exceeds the recommendations.

The update SHOULD work. Version 13 SHOULD work. But only version 12 does.

I know that others had issues with InDesign v.13 crashing--My coworker addressed it here: Re: Indesign 2018 crashes on launch But what worked for him has yet to prove successful for me and for one other coworker.

Suggestions??? Grateful for any help.

Hi Karen,

Are you getting the permission error while launching InDesign 2018 and 2019?

MAC_Alert

If yes, perform this procedure on each of the following folders:

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe InDesign
  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe InDesign

Note: In folder paths or names listed in the procedures, replace <user> with your account name.

  1. Open the File Explorer window. Click the View tab, and then select Hidden items.
  2. Navigate to the folders using the paths listed above.
  3. In File Explorer, right-click the folder InDesign and choose Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab, and then click Edit to set permissions.
  5. In the Permissions dialog, select your user name. In the Permissions area, deselect the Deny check box.
  6. Click OK twice.
  7. Launch Adobe InDesign.

Regards,

Srishti

Thanks for replying, but it's not a permissions error. I pretty much knew that beforehand, but I went through the steps you outlined to check.

I'm hoping there may be other tricks up your sleeve. If so, please share! In the meantime, I'm going to do some digging in different threads and other forums.

Thanks for any and all assistance!

Karen

Steve

Seems they still haven't addressed the problem with the Properties panel. I run all my panels on my 2nd monitor. If I utilize the Properties panel, I have to reset my workspace every time I open a file. If I utilize a workspace without Properties the behavior is sticky, as expected.

Uwe,

I just added an announcement on the InDesign forum about the Hot Fix for the GREP bug in InDesign 14.0.2 so more people will find it.

When I am trying to install the plug-in I get an error (yes, I did unzipped it): permission denied

I am on Windows 10 Home, version 1903.
Reading the CopyPlugin.vbs file I figured out that the Text Walker.rpln should be copied into the 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC 2019\Required' folder, so I did this manually: replacing the existing file.

Definitely the system wants confirmation.

I wonder why Adobe didn't take this situation into account, or at least offered an alternative 'manual installation' option in the instruction?

Hi Kas,

no need for the installing mechanism with the vb script.

I did exactly that: Extracted CopyPlugin > win64 > Text Walker.rpln and replaced the old file with the new one.

Had to do this, because my InDesign is not installed on drive C:

Uwe

Static endnotes option in Word import still loses all superscripting of endnote references. Same behavior as 14.0.1. I also posted on that bug thread.

Time to move to Windows 10...or back to Windows 7. But the next version won't support Windows 7, either.

  • Operating System (exact version of Windows/ MAC)
  • Does it crash after freezing? If yes, please share the crash report (Submit a crash report for InDesign ).
  • Is it freezing on launch or while working on some file?
  • If you are using a windows system, please check if you see any error report in Event Viewer.

I use Windows 10 Pro 64 (10.0, compilation 17763) on this laptop. It does not crash after freezing, I need to kill it in the task. It freezes on working on file. I do not know if issue is related to more then this particular package as I was short on deadline with this. I cannot share the file.

I have some errors from Wacom Tablet but it was not even connected at the time (so probably failed attempt to connect to device), Adobe Notification client, but I have this one today as well.  And one from Photo shop that actually works quite fine. Nothing from InDesign

Bottom line is, I installed previous Adobe Indesign build 14.0.1 and everything is fine.
