InDesign crashing when using Command+C or Command+X on text

Hi! Any time I use command+c OR command+x on text in InDesign (2020), the program cold crashes. It doesn't freeze or anything, just shuts down. It happens if I use cut or copy on the entire text box and when highlighting the text itself. This started happening out of the blue a few days ago after I was using the program on and off all day. The program is up to date, so I don't think that's an issue, and it's not happening in any other Adobe programs so far. I've restarted my computer and 3 days later it's still happening. I can use the alt key to drag and copy and text I need duplicated, but it's time consuming and annoying when I need something across multiple pages. I should re-iterate that it's only when I use the command keys on text (no matter how small or large), nothing else gives me this problem.

If anyone has any tips, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing the version of InDesign and OS?
Is it hapening with a specific document or with all?
If it is happening with a specific document, it could be a corrupted file. Try converting file into IDML and then try to work.
If it is happening with all of them, try resetting the peferences once. Follow instructions on help article https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Looking forward to your response.

Ashutosh

Hi Ashutosh – thank you so much for this. I'm working on InDesign 2020 v. 15.0.1 and OS High Sierra v. 10.13.6.

I've been working on the same file, but it's been copied and saved as new quite a few times, so I thought it was across all documents. I tried it with a different document and I didn't have the issue. I converted the corrupted file into IDML and it solved the problem! Any idea why this is?

Thank you again!
