indesign issues - saving/exporting/etc

I have the latest version of InDesign (15.0.1) and running on windows 10.

I haven't had too many issues with this program in the past, but recently it's been taking a very long time to save and export files.  (basically going from 20 secs to save or export to a couple of minutes.)

Also, not sure if this is really related, but an entire folder of files disappeared from my external hard drive without a trace, most of which were Illustrator and InDesign files.  On the landing page of ID, it tries to recover one of the missing files and even shows the name of one that disappeared, but states that there's no recovery data found/the file doesn't exist.

Should I just go back to an older version of the program?
Anyone else having this issue with laggy wait times?
