InDesign "Save" is grayed out...

I'm using InDesign CC (12.0.0.81), and I've been working on large file for a while. All of a sudden, it no longer saves. I hit Ctrl+S, thinking I'm saving, but when I go to the menu, Save is grayed out. Fortunately, Save As is working, so I am saving as a new version, just in case. I can also Save As a previous version, overwriting it, but Save stopped working.

Why can't I save using the "Save" menu command or Ctrl+S?

When Save is grayed out, that means the file has just been saved. When it is available, that means you have made a change.

InDesign has a second way of indicating this—look for the * to the left of the file name on the tab bar.

Thanks. Apparently, InDesign is smarter than I am.
