Dear all,
I know it sounds stupid, but how do I perform search only in the user guide?
I don't want to search in all adobe, just inside the user guide.
InDesign Help | InDesign User Guide
Another thing, do you see in the user guide a topic for placing photos? I was looking through topics and for some reason I can't find it (have I gone blind?)
Thank you
Shlomit
No. I cannot see it. The whole section about Import is missing.
And that's not the only content that is missing.
Regards,
Uwe

Are you having a particular issue with Placing photographs in InDesign?

No. I just want to find what is written in user guide.

Hi Shlomit,
did you try the PDF version of the user guide?
Last updated 2/2/2018:
https://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf
Ah. Found a newer version with the link on the web site of the user guide for InDesign:

And here an helpX page on the specific topic:
How to place, import, and insert images into InDesign
FWIW: If you do a Google search for the best results always use helpX as part of the search.
My search term for the link above was:
helpX, Place images, InDesign

Uwe

Thank you, but if you go to User guide link, do you see it there between the topics?

I need to find the topic in the User guide because I want to find the parallel one in the Hebrew User guide and I can't find it.
So the PDF will not help, nor do specific pages that are not translated to Hebrew.

What should be the language code for Hebrew?
he I think.
This is the English version of the helpX page:
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html
This is the French version of the same page:
https://helpx.adobe.com/fr/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html
This is the German version:
https://helpx.adobe.com/de/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html
This should be the Hebrew version, but it will go to a 404 page:
https://helpx.adobe.com/he/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html

Uwe

Which is exactly why I want to see this specific topic in the user guide topics list.
Not all pages are translated to Hebrew.

So you have your answer. The Hebrew version is not there.

I have found that during an edit a few years ago, the whole section on file import is not found in the PDF version, but can be found in rather hard-to-find links in the online version. I'm too busy thing morning to try to find them, but much of the material is there but is not in the SEARCHABLE PDF version.

I’ve found that a Google search is an easy way to search and access the InDesign helpx pages.
So "Indesign how to place image" returns this. Any pages returned starting with https://helpx.adobe... are links to the online guide.
This is the 1st returned helpx link:

Thanks, Rob, for finding that. That was one of the articles in the online file but dropped from the PDF.
I've documented this in the ACP forum, but the documentation team has not chosen to do anything about it yet.
That article has many links on the side which lead to the other missing articles not in the PDF file.

Not all pages are translated to Hebrew.
You might be able to use Chrome’s translation feature on the https//helpx pages

I know, but I also know it used to be on the Hebrew online Help, but as said above, this topic in missing from the manual, both in English and In Hebrew. I wrote this post in order to be sure that I'm not missing anything.
Since I'm teaching and supporting InDesign users in Hebrew, I wanted to refer someone and also see the terms that were used in the manual, I couldn't find it, and that started this post.

Here is a screen shot from a really old manual, but in Hebrew, just to show that it was translated many years ago...

Is there a reason you need to use the PDF version? In my experience Google simply does a better job finding the helpx pages than Adobe’s internal search engine.

Hi Rob,
apparently there is no helpx page in Hebrew for this particular topic.
Hope, that will change. So currently the best bet is to open a bug report on the issue.

Uwe

I haven't tried it, but the Chrome browser has a translation feature:

I think you missed my point or I didn't explained it well:
What I meant to show is that the online Help used to contain this topic, also in Hebrew. The only proof I have that this text was translated is old PDF, so I upload a screenshot to show you that.
Since it's already translated, once this topic will re-inserted in the online help, it probably also re-appear in the Hebrew online-I hope so.
And by the way, google translate is really bad in Hebrew especially when it comes to professional Help. Many people worked very hard to find the correct terms in order to explain users what to do. Google does not have this set of terms and is not translating correctly. Also, since there is no Hebrew menu in InDesign, the translation will not show the English term but a Hebrew translation so it will be impossible to know what to choose or select etc.

Yes I understand that.
I was initially pointing out that Google's search engine is considerably better than the Adobe website's internal search engine. My Google search was easily finding the "missing" HTML helpx page for placing images. In my experience it will find any topic that exists in the online HTML guide.

I tried to perform a search in English but asked to only show pages in Hebrew and I found it here:
כיצד למקם, לייבא ולהוסיף תמונות לתוך InDesign
Still, it should appear in the online Help which was the only thing I wanted to ask
Thank you
