Japanese furigana in InDesign ?

Guest

Hi,

I've done a brief internet search, and the answer to this one typically is you need the Japanese version of InDesign installed, which is less than attractive in a context where the primary working language in the office and its systems is English and the amount of Japanese content to be created is minimal in comparison.

Anyway, is there any way in InDesign (CC 2018 if it makes any difference) to be able to properly enter furigana without needing to install Japanese-language version of InDesign ? (for those unfamiliar, its not just a case of needing a Japanese font, see Wikipedia : Furigana - Wikipedia )

Thanks !

Diane Burns from TransPacific Digital has created some templates for Japanese and Chinese which allows the use of Asian composition rules to text that might work:

Hi Steve,

Diane's documents do not contain any furigana samples.

I think, that you need a special grid system to typeset furigana.
Don't know, but I cannot see that you would be able to do that with a non-Japanese version.

Uwe
