Position and size of master page items change when I change document size

I need to change the document size for a book project, yet the images/text/lines/etc. on the pages must remain their current sizes. When I input the new size in Document Setup, it seems the items on the master pages are resized and repositioned, perhaps proportional to the change in document size, but it's too much math for me to figure that one out and I don't think it makes a difference to my question.

How can I change the document size, yet keep the master page items from changing from their original size? I'm using InDesign CC 2018 on a Mac.

If you select the Page tool, then in the Control panel at the top of the window you will see options for size and so forth. One of the options is Liquid Page Rule, and in the drop down list you can choose OFF so that none of the objects will be resized.

Hi StudioTed:

If it is the type size of the master page items is changing? In that case, deselect Adjust Font Size in File > Auto-Adjust Layout.

If it's frames, alternatives are to lock the items down before updated (and deselect Adjust Locked Content) or copy the master page items prior to adjusting the layout, then remove the updated objects and paste the originals back in.
