Hi all
I am having a bit of trouble with the exported swf file, i have a video that i placed in the indesign file and it works in the SWF perview in indesign. But when i export the file as a swf file and open the html link the video does not play. It just shows the first frame of the video and never plays. I tried showing the controllers of the video so i can even press play in the html but the controllers do not appear.
I uploaded the video on youtube and tried making a hyperlink button in the indesign file, but when i exported and clicked the hyperlink it opened another tab rather than playing the video in my layout.
I also tried taking the url of the youtube video and placing it in indesign using the "place a video from url" but apparently the extension of the video i get from the url is not supported.

I am trying to do it locally.
For security reasons the Flash player plugin usually prevents a local .swf from loading assets. On OSX you can allow local exceptions via the System Preferences>Flash Player>Advanced>Trusted Loaction Settings...
Or you can try doing it via Adobe's site:
Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Global Security Settings panel
But you'll have to eventually test from a web url, so you might as well upload the folder with the HTML, SWF, and assets folder. Keep in mind the

SWF is DEAD. It won't play on mobile or any desktop without Flash player installed.
Without telling us exactly what you hope to accomplish I can't really give you any solid advice on an alternative. But if you're actually trying to create web content, then I suggest using a proper web authoring tool.

Thank you Bob, but i do have flash player installed. I do realize now that SWF is an old technology, unfortunately i found out after weeks of working on a project. The video exporting thing is the only thing left for me.
What am trying to do is to place a video in the background of a page. The page -is like a home page to the project- has a menu on the side with a few buttons that go to to other pages and supposedly the video playing in the back. When i export the file the menu and all the buttons work but the video appears as an image, just showing the first frame and thats it.

Are you trying to do this locally or on a server? You'll need to upload everything to a web server to test it.

I don't believe that will work locally, but again, you're dealing with dead technology. I've got nothing for you except using a proper application for something like that.

Try exporting as a Flash file (.fla) and open in Animate to see if there is an actionscript preventing play.
You can also try importing the video there.

if you are interested in running your own web server locally to test things with no access to an actual web server you can use MAMP. It has a free version. i use it for testing IN5 projects. here:

Jonathan, I tested a SWF export in my MAMP server it it does work, but I think a MAMP installation might be overkill in this case. I also used my System's Trusted Location Settings for the exported SWF folder on my Desktop and it also worked
