P: Allocating GPS-Position not working anymore

The GPS-Positioning doesn't work anymore. I have installed the latest version of Lightroom Classic. When I start allocating GPS-Positions on the map, nothing happens. When I restart Lightroom it works for one or two images and then it stopps working again.

I've never had any issues with GPS-Positioning before. So, I wonder what the problem is.

Try going to the Library module, exiting LR, restarting LR, then going to the Map module. When you exit LR directly from the Map module, it can misbehave the next time you start LR.  This may not be the cause of your problem, but it's easy to try.

I have a comprehensive failure description now....you can follow this as well....

• Go to the map module
• Select 1 of your images
• Search for the location "harvard university" -> is just an example!
  
• Right-click exactly on the yellow marker where the Harvard University is marked.
  
• Choose adding the GPS coordinates to the image (here in screenshot is German)

From now on the GPS-allocation doesn't work anymore, whatever you do. You have to restart LR that it will work again. At least it is the case for me.

Also, I disagree with your logic that it is a Mac related issue. It works on my machine and doesn't work on yours does not imply the cause is the operating system. (That may or may not be the cause; other possiblities are that there is something in your LrC, like your preference file, that is the cause)

I have done this.....deleted the plist-file, rebootet my Mac, restarted LRC and still....issue as described above.

I can reproduce the steps you described in your post on LR 13.1 / Mac OS 14.2.1 but not LR 13.1 / Windows 11:

The proximate cause appears to be that when you hover the mouse over the yellow pin indicating the location of the search result, LR incorrectly pops up a black box that would normally display thumbnails of any photos assigned to that location. But in this case, there are no photos assigned:

A workaround is to close the black box by typing Escape. Then right-click the pin and do Add GPS Coordinates.

Some additional clues to the cause of the bug can be seen by running LR with the -tracebacks option.  When you hover the mouse over the search-result pin, you get the following log output of an "assertion failed":

The issue hasn't been fix with the latest update of Lightroom Classic.

Version 13.2 for Mac.

BUT: What is working again, is the allocation of GPS-data by tracklog.

It isn't listed as fixed in the LR 13.2 release notes. Adobe will update this thread when it is fixed.

I also encounter this issue intermittently (Lightroom Classic 13.2, MacOS X 14.4). @johnrellis's suggested solution of changing to the Library module and then restarting Lightroom resolved the issue for me (at least for now).

Incidentally, I have found that even when clicking directly on the map and using "Add GPS Coordinates to Selected Photos" doesn't work for me, I am still able to set GPS coordinates by clicking on a Saved Location in the left sidebar.

As this bug already exsits for several months, I would be happy this getting fixed in the next update release.
