P: Applying Vignetting, switching to another picture, and switching back causes Grain to be applied

Community Beginner ,

Hi all,

Having a strange issue. If I apply a Vignetting preset (e.g. Vignetting - Heavy) and then switch to another picture and go back, it will apply "Grain - Heavy". I can even see it adding the Grain preset to the history. It's like it confuses the Vignetting and Grain presets since they are both "Preset: Heavy".

The attached video shows the bug.

I had previously had this issue and when I contacted Adobe support they had me reset my settings which made the problem go away. However, it just started happening again a few weeks later.

I am using v15.0.1 on MacOS Tahoe 26.1.

Appreciate any guidance on this as I don't want to keep having to reset my settings.

I just upgraded to v15.0.1 and went to the updated program and called up some photos I have edited previously. I am also getting the exact same behavior. Calling up pics with vignette applied and it is adding Grain to picture and I also see it adding "Preset:Heavy" to the history. Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks for reporting, good to know that it isn't just me and very interesting that it is cross platform as I am on a Mac.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography - additional info - I tested to see what would happen if after applying the Vignette if I did something else so that the Vignette is not the latest item in the History. However, even in that case, the issue still occurs - same as before, a new Preset: Heavy shows up as the latest History item after whatever I did last which applies Grain.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography - another interesting troubleshooting note - if I collapse the "Grain" category in the Preset list, the issue does not happen anymore. If I reopen the "Grain" category (even if I do not apply anything) and switch to another picture and back it will happen again.

I like to use the Adobe Preset Vignette, especially for animal photography. Since installing version 15.01, there has been a problem. The preset can be used normally and works as expected. The entry in the xmp file is also correct.

If the photo is loaded into the development module again, the vignette is interpreted as grain and applied and saved as such.

The unpleasant thing is that it is hardly noticeable with a light grain. Only when the settings are expanded does it become clear (Screenshot 2025-12-02 181159.png).

Workaround: Use vignetting in the effects.

This is a lot of work; I have to rework several hundred images because I noticed the error too late.

I've had this ongoing issue where 'Heavy Grain' keeps automatically applying to photos after editing, possibly only happens after exporting them but its so random I cant be sure

Currently using v15.0.1 on Mac but this has been happening for a good few versions before

My previous message here was moved automatically after I submitted the issue, it's been happeneing to me for over a year and I dont think it has anyting to do with vignette usage
