Externally edited images do disappear from the filmstrip when a filtered view is active. To reproduce the problem: 1. Create several folders with several tiff images. 2. Import the images in Lightroom. 3. Add the 'flower' keyword to every image. 4. In the Library module, in the 'Keyword List' panel click the arrow right to the 'flower' keyword. This will make Lightroom to show all the images that has the keyword 'flower'. Now comes the problem. Edit one of the images on the filmstrip in PS (Ctrl+E). After changing the file and saving it, when returning to Lightroom the image disappears from the filmstrip. When checking the image in the folder (clicking the correct folder in the Library) it shows up. When applying the 'flower' filter, the image isn't visible anymore.

Hmm, I don't see that in my LR 8.4.1 / Mac OS 10.14.6. Perhaps you could upload a full-resolution screen recording to Dropbox or similar and post the sharing link here? That might give clues as to what's going on and how to reproduce the problem.

Have you looked at the properties of that image in Finder or Explorer to see IF the keyword is there? When you send the TIF to PS which option are you selecting in the dialog that comes up? Edit a Copy with LR edits Edit a copy Edit Original

I can confirm this behavior on my Windows 10 Build version 1902 system running LR 8.4.1. I used Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments.
If I right-click the original photo and select 'Go to Folder in Library' the Edit in PS file appears next to the original file. If I use the Library Filter to filter on that keyword both the original and Edit in PS files also appear next to each other. If I click on the keyword side arrow in the Keyword List the Edit in PS copy does not appear anywhere in the displayed files. It's almost as if the Edit in PS file doesn't have that keyword applied, but it is visible in the Library module Keyword Tags. If I Export the Edit in PS file the exported file does appear using the Keyword List right arrow filter, but not the original Edit in PS file.

Yes, the keyword is there in the file (TIFF or JPEG). Always edit the original. The point here is to use a separate LR catalog just for keywording. Sometimes the file being keyworded needs editing - here is the glitch that happens.

I now see the bug on my Mac OS LR 8.4.1. The bug doesn't occur if the Metadata browser was previously open with just the Keyword column and no other columns. The bug doesn't occur if the Keyword column is changed from Flat to Hierarchical. The phantom edited photo also reappears if you restart LR.
A more precise recipe for reproducing the bug:
1. Import a TIFF.
2. Assign the TIFF the keyword "flower" (and make sure no other photos have that keyword).
3. In the Filter bar, select the preset Default Columns.
4. Disable filters.
5. In the Keyword List panel, click the arrow to the right of "flower". The TIFF will be displayed.
6. Do Edit In Adobe Photoshop 2019 > Edit A Copy With Lightroom Adjustments and save the edited TIFF.
7. Notice that the edited TIFF doesn't appear, even though the count to the right of "flower" in both the Metadata browser and the Keyword List panel is now 2:

I can also confirm this bug at least with Windows 10.
I created a new catalogue for my test and imported one raw image. I then created a virtual copy of the original and gave it a keyword "Keyword Bug". Made some develop adjustments and cropped the image. In Library Grid view, selecting the folder containing the original image shows two images, the original and the virtual copy. On the keywords panel, Keyword Bug has a count of 1.
Clicking the arrow alongside Keyword Bug in the keyword panel filters on All Photographs so that only one image is displayed. The Metadata Library Filter shows that the Keyword filter for Keyword Bug has a count of 1 and All (1 Keyword) has a count of 2.
I then selected the displayed virtual copy, chose Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, made a contrast adjustment and saved it as a psd. Back in Lightroom, the count for Keyword Bug had increased to 2 and the All (1 Keyword) count increased to 3, but the saved psd was not visible.
Clicking All (1 Keyword) in the Keyword filter panel showed all 3 images.
Clicking the arrow alongside Keyword Bug in the keyword panel again still only showed the virtual copy, not the psd copy.
If I then close Lightroom, relaunch and click the arrow alongside Keyword Bug in the keyword panel, both the virtual copy and the edited psd images are displayed.

I think this is a very old bug. Since Lr 2 or so. If you have a filter on, e.g. keyword, the edited file doesn't show up. Switch your filter off and on again and yes... there it is!

Two workarounds to this bug:
- After saving the edited photo in Photoshop, exit and restart LR.
- After clicking the the arrow to the right of the keyword in the Keyword List, click the tiny dropdown menu on the right side of the Keyword column in the Metadata browser:
If Flat is selected, click on Hierarchical and then click the arrow to the right of the keyword in the Keyword List panel again. Then edit the photo in Photoshop.

Switching the Library Filter> Metadata> Keyword selection filter to 'None' and back doesn't reveal the Edit in PS image file. If you switch to a Text> Keyword filter it appears, but switching back to the Metadata> Keyword selection used by the Keyword List filter it's no longer visible. As mentioned by *John R. Ellis and *Anthony Blackett a restart of LR is required to "fix" the issue.

It seems the problem doesn't occur in the Hierarchical view. The only way I have found to get the externally edited image visible with the keyword filter on in Flat view is to relaunch Lr.
Here’s another twist. After creating the Ps edit copy, relaunch Lr so that the Ps edit copy is visible when the Metadata filter is open and the keyword filter applied in Flat view mode. The edited Ps copy will be displayed.
Select the edited Ps copy and chose Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 to open it again in Ps. Make a change, then click Save and immediately switch back to Lr. If you are quick enough, you will see the psd copy still visible, but then disappear once the save operation is completed.

Try switching to Hierarchical view, reselect the Keyword List right-arrow for that keyword, switch the Keyword Filter back to Flat view, and reselect the Keyword List right-arrow for that keyword. That fixes the issue on my system without having to restart LR. Agreed it's cumbersome, but it may give Adobe a clue as to the root cause and a fix.

Hi Todd,
I tried that and it didn't fix it for me. Just as you suggest, after a relaunch I started with Flat view, selected the Keyword List right-arrow for the keyword, edited my psd in Ps (Open Original), made a change and saved. The psd disappears in Lr once saved. Switched to Hierarchical view, selected the Keyword List right-arrow for the keyword again. My psd image now displays. Changed to Flat View and selected the Keyword List right-arrow for the keyword. The psd disappears.
I think there is plenty here for Adobe to track this down easily.

I do not use keywords but cannot figure this out. I am losing my previous edited image in LR (after pulling the next one into PS) the entire edit is gone. This has happened since updating to PS 2020 and I run Catalina on Mac - Please help
