P: Lightroom 14.1 & 14.1.1 stops showing metadata after 5 to 10min of work spinning wheel

After updating to LHR classic 14.1.1 LHR stops shwoing metadat in the lybrary module as well as in the developement module (loupe info).
Closing LHR and deleting the files: ...Helper.Lrdata, ....Previews.Lrdata as well as ....Sync.Lrdata helps, as they are created each time new when starting LHR.

But after working for about 10min all the metadata disapears again.

I have installed LRH fresh and reset all settings. Nothings seems to help.
I have a attached a screenshot but I wonder if that helps - there is just that spinning wheel.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I have a large catalog with about 200.000 photos in it but have had no issues so far. Big Windows PC with plenty of power.

Lightroom automatically upgraded to v 14.1 today and my Metadata and Keyword tags have all disappeared for every photo.  Is there a way to resolve this?

Sounds like the wrong catalog file opened after the upgrade. Search you computer -- use your operating system's search feature -- look in all folders on all drives -- for files whose name ends with .LRCAT. Probably the largest such file is the one you want to open.

It was using the correct catalog but clearly was not pulling in metadata or keyword tags.  Adobe support dialled in and eventually backed up the catalog and restarted it and it seemed to work but only lasted for about 10 minutes then it all disappeared again.  I have reverted back to version 14.0, opened my catalogue and the metadata and keywords are there.  So I am staying away from this upgrade.

Disappeared meaning that the keywords or metadata in the fields on the right hand side of the Library Module become blank?

Perhaps you have accidentally clicked on this icon:

Please see if clicking there fixes the problem.

Indeed, it scared me at first but then realized that the metadata is not lost.  You can still see it if, for example, you sync metadata between two files.  It's all still there.  You can also see the data in Finder.  I would think the data just isn't loading in a way that it shows in LR's metadata panel on the right.  And I also assume they will issue a fix soon.

Hi all.

The problem is that information about photos is no longer displayed in the Library and other modules.
I can't show which file I am trying to edit. Additionally, when this issue occurs, options like editing in Photoshop are greyed out and unusable.

Restarting Lightroom does not resolve the issue. After deleting Helper.lrdata and Previews.lrdata, I was able to see the information when I started Lightroom Classic. I suspect that metadatahelper is not functioning properly, so I am reporting this.

It seems that metadatahelper.db cannot be read properly when it exceeds 3.1GB. After deleting metadatahelper.db, it became readable again.

Lightroom Classic Version Number: 14.1.1

Hey @George Long,

Could you share more details about the issue? Does the metadata become visible when you click the icon in the top left of the panel, as dj_paige suggested?

Thanks!

I have Lightroom Classic, version 14.1.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.2. The problem I am having with LRC is the panels within the library module are visible but contain no information. When I open a RAW file the Histogram and Metadata panels show no data. None of the settings within the Quick Develop panel respond when I click on them. The Develop module, on the other hand, seems to be fine. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled LRC and optimized the catalog. Nothing has changed. Any suggestions?

Try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

Thanks for getting back to me. I reset LRC preferences through the preference dialog box but everything is still the same, except now I see a spinning wheel in the Metadata panel. I restarted the computer and after resetting the preferences but still no change.

"When I open a RAW file ... " what is the exact step(s) you are referring to here?

Please show us a screen capture of the entire Library Module screen, by including the screen capture in your reply by clicking on the "Insert Photos" icon. Do NOT attach files.

"When I open a RAW file" means when I am looking at a NEF file that I imported into LRC. There is no information in the Library Module. I chatted with two different live Adobe agents and shared my screen with them. First they reset the application preferences. No change. Then they said my catalog has issues so they imported all data to a new catalog. When I restarted LRC the Library Module seemed to be working at first and then it stopped working again. This is my screen currently. You'll see there is no visible data in the panels. This is just a random image I selected as an example. It is not damaged. No matter what image I click on there is no data in the Library Module.

Since updating to 14.1, when clicking on a photo in library mode, the right-hand column (histogram, keywords, metadata) does not populate - just a spinning wheel forever in the Metadata margin :

DramaticPhotographic_0-1735609191971.pngexpand image

All other LR functions (eg Develop) work fine, and the Library doesn't crash - Thumbnails, navigation, etc all appear ok, just no metadata.

LR Classic 13.51 - Works fine, metadata populated

LR Classic 14.01 - Works fine, metadata populated

LR Classic 14.1 - Metadata not populating

LR Classic 14.11 - Metadata not populating

I've gone backwards and forwards between the above versions, 100% reproducible.

I’ve also tried restoring various older catalogue backups and re-converting them, deleted preference file, settings & previews folders, rebooting, etc. but none made any difference - metadata populates in 14.01 and below, not in 14.1 and above.

Using Windows 11 all latest patches, Intel Core 200 265k, 48GM RAM, 200k photos in catalogue, been using LR since v1.

Any suggestions please?

I can't reproduce it, but I wonder if it could have something to do with corrupted previews. Try this: move your 'catalogname previews.lrdata' file out of the catalog folder and start Lightroom Classic again. Lightroom will have to rebuild the previews, so initially you will see no previews at all, but then they appear one by one. See if that solves the problem. If that does not help, then you can replace the new previews file by the old one again.

I can't help, I do not have a solution, but this may be the same thing happening here https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/library-module-shows-no-data/td-p/15062...

I would advise you watch that thread as well.

PS: As a wild guess, try turning off your anti-virus temporarily and see if the makes the problem go away.

As a wild guess, if you are using a 3rd party antivirus software, try temporarily turning it off and see if the problem goes away.

You sated that you had reset the preferences file. But that empty  histogram is a classic indicator of a corrupt preferences file. Is the Navigation Panel also blank???

After you reset that preferences file, when you restarted LrC, were you presented with tips, etc. as you would get at a new LrC install?

What I am getting at, was the preferences reset accomplished properly?

The Navigation Panel is not blank. And yes, when I reset the preferences I was presented with tips. Today I tried manually removing the preference file from the Library folder. That also didn't change anything. So I decided to install a previous version of LrC to see what happens. I went back to version 14.0 and I can now see the data in the panels within library module. I'm happy I got it to work but I am still frustrasted because I want it to work with the latest updates of LrC. Thanks for your help. Happy New Year!

Not sure why this was move to "discussions" - its clearly a bug.

Version 14.01 and before work fine

Version 14.1, 14.1.1 dont work - don't populate metadata/histogram/keywords.

I deleted preferences (I know i did it correctly as all my thumbnail settings disapeared)

I deleted the previews folder (I know I did it correctly as LR became very slow and started re-generating thumbnails)

I restored older catalogue versions (I know I did it correctly as recent photos were no longer in the catralogue)

But doing these made no difference to the bug - 14.1.1 still doesn't populate metadata, 14.01 does.
