P: Merge to HDR and Panorama doesn't work

LEGEND ,
Oct 22, 2017 Oct 22, 2017

Copy link to clipboard

Copied

On a regular basis, I merge 5 bracketed shots from my drone.  In the older LR, this operation took about 1 minute or less.  I could "batch" 5 operations at a time and have them all done in about 3 minutes or less.

With the newer, faster, more awesome (and likely soon-to-be-deprecated) LR, it simply won't do anything.  I was lucky and had one HDR to work, but I've tried countless others (one for nearly two hours) and nothing happens.  The progress bar makes no progress.

I'm really worried that this important feature is simply victim of a bug.

Anyone else having issues?  Adobe, what's up with this??

I'm using a medium-powered PC that has never had problems with merge before.

You can follow the steps below:
  1. Open system info window from 'Help->Syetm Info' menu option.
  2. Copy the location specified against Settings Folder: field.
  3. Open the location copied from above in Explorer(windows) or Finder(mac)
  4. Create a file named config.lua
  5. Add Features.disableGlobalTaskManager = true to the config file.
  6. Restart lightroom
  7. System Info dialog (Help > System Info) should display the config.lua flags entry as shown below

Hi Satish,

I was directed to this thread as I am having the same problem as Dan.  I have just tried your suggestion re the keyboard short cuts and that DOES work here.  I presume it has auto-aligned and auto-toned from the result but cannot tell if it applied any de-ghosting.

I use Windows 10, btw.

EDIT: Not certain thias is what you meant by 'LR Language settings' but just in case -

LanguageVersion: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

Thank you.

Hi, Unfortunately I have the same problem and cannot create HDR images using Photo merge.

It does display the preview pop up window, after selecting 2 or plus images to merge, then when you press merge nothing happen. The bar of "creating HDR" stay still at 0% forever.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled LR, reset the preferences twice and disabled graphic processor, but it still does not work.

Yesterday there was a software update for LR Classic, but the issue was not corrected.

Come on Adobe,  my HDR or Pano does not work as well,  I think I got it to work once since I installed Classic  several days ago,  I've been buying LR since LR2 been using subscription since it was introduced as well.  If I could go back to the latest edition I would,  I need the  dehaze slider and can't use a old version I have.     I've read this thread and have tried everything,  Fix this ASAP someone help!  I have two weeks worth of Vacation photo's  pano's and bracketed stuff that I need to Edit  but this stupid latest edition of LR is not working,   Photoshop can handle the HDR's and pano's  but they don't look as good as the LR one's  . HELP me and the rest of us frustrated PAYING customers  ASAP!

Hi every one, an adobe tech found the origin of the issue and a solution.
In my case was due because I have too many services running and Photo Merge was waiting for a low usage in the system before starting the merge operation. In my case it never started.

So they suggested of: clearing the config.lua file (in the root of lightroom presets folder) and update it with:
Features.disableGlobalTaskManager = true

Restart LR after this change.

In my case it worked perfectly, despite i was still running all the services.

It is also faster than before.

I hope this helps.

I have a closely related issue:

I am currently processing a large set of holiday pictures with Lightroom now Classic CC on Windows 7. I have successfully created several panoramas in the last few days (from 3 to 74 raw pictures) using photomerge.

Since yesterday however (no update, no reboot), photomerge gets stuck at 1/4 of panorama preview creation for any set of pictures (including 3 pictures panorama that were successfully merged previously).

The issue persists through computer reboots, lightroom reboots via the preference menu, and through updating to the latest release. Direct merging with Ctrl Shift M does not even begin to process.

I haven't been able to find a config.lua file.

I just tried the above work around posted by Satish T, and it worked for me, just like the old days last week.  i copied the Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg file and edited it in Notebook (windows PC) and pasted in the above Features.disableGlobalTaskManager = true.   Restart lightroom, see it show up in the system info and you should be good to go.

I have the same problem, however, using a mac. Can't figure out where this "config.lua" file is. Searched the entire hard drive for a file named that and no luck.
It would be great if answers and solutions were published for both windows and macs.
It would be even greater if matters as such were being fixed by ADOBE instead of sending users to change lost config files.
Does anyone know how to fix the problem on OSX? Thanks.

Here is a snippet from my system info:

Application folder: /Applications/Adobe Lightroom Classic CC
Library Path: /Users/satish/Pictures/Lr_Cat/Lr_Cat.lrcat
Settings Folder: /Users/satish/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom

You need to navigate to the location corresponding to the highlighted line in the above snipped and create the config file.
Also make sure that the file does not have any txt extension.
Let us know if you need any help.

I had this problem with Panorama Merge as well.  Satish's config.lua method worked perfectly once I figured out what was meant 'create a config.lua file'.  Probably obvious to most but just in case anyone else is as uninformed as me -

Open Notepad
Paste in the line: Features.disableGlobalTaskManager = true
Save As config.lua onto your Desktop (or wherever), enter the entire C/Users..../Lightroom location from your Settings into the task bar search window* and open the appropriate folder and then copy and paste in the config.lua file you saved on your Desktop (or wherever).  If it has saved as config.lua.txt then rename the file by deleting .txt and save.  You might get a warning at that point but ignore it.

I am using Windows 10, btw.

*I had to do this as I could not find the location manually stepping through the folder tree indicated in my settings.  No idea why that should be.

Now, have I created more confusion for some of you?  I apologise if so.
