P: "create virtual copy" from develop module keeps selecting next photo

When I have several photos selected (two or more), and I "create a virtual copy" from the "Develop" or "Loupe" view, the current selected photo moves to the next or previous selection, rather than remaining on the newly created virtual copy. The new virtual copy appears, but I have to go back to it with each new virtual copy I create.

Greetings all,

A new update for Adobe Photography Products has been released.  The December update contains an update for this issue.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for being so patient.

I have a new observation that might be helpful; I was able to replicate this bug using the recipe:

1) Make sure "Sync Settings" is disabled (turned off)

2) Select two or more photos

3) Switch to "Library Loupe" or "Develop" module

4) Create a Virtual Copy (using keyboard shortcut [cmd+'] or [menu→Photo→Create Virtual Copy])

This resulted in the "active selection" issue occuring, however, I wanted to observe this behavior from a different perspective. This time I clicked "undo" and then switched to "Library Grid" module. From the "Grid" view, I used the menu to click "re-do", and watched the issue occur from this view.

My observation is that it appears this could be an "order of operations" error. The action starts by "de-selecting" the current "Active Photo", and attempts to move forward to the newly Created Virtual copy, however this Virtual Copy doesn't exist yet. Therefor, the selection continues on to the next available photo (this is why is appears to "jump" the new VC), when the Virtual Copy finally appears, it shows up behind the "Active Selection" (or in front, if there is no proceeding photo). If this selection action simply waited a step longer, the "move right" action would actually select the correct newly created Virtual Copy.

I have attached a screen recording of this observation, with a step-by-step replay included (don't worry its only about 16 seconds).

Thanks for reading/ watching

Converting to investigating with new information presented.

@MeCody

I can reproduce this 100% of the time on my Windows 10 system in either Library Loupe or in Develop. Auto Sync needs to be turned off.

Let's assume there are only three photos and that they are all selected. If the 'most selected' photo in the selection is photo 3 (last in the selection), then after the VC of photo 3 is created, the previous photo 2 is selected. Otherwise, if the 'most selected' photo is not the last, then after the creation of the VC, then the next photo following the new VC is selected. This may be 'as designed'. It definitely can't be fixed by resetting Preferences, restarting LrC or reinstalling LrC.

I can understand this might be annoying for some users, but I don't understand the workflow here. Why have a selection of photos when the intention is to create a VC of one of them and then work on that new VC?

On my Mac In either Library Loupe or in Develop. Auto Sync needs to be turned off the following is what happens 100% of the time.

LrC always selects the VC that was created for the Most Selected master photo.  This is the behavior I would expect to be as-designed.

Works for me on LrC13.4 and Mac.

Did you restart LrC and the Computer?  If that fails than you should reset your Preferances.  Sometimes they gets messed up and creates all kind of odd issues and a reset fixes the issues.

Thanks for the reply! I've restarted both my computer and LrC, tried updating LrC, but the problem persists. It's very specific though, it only causes issues if 2 or more photos are selected when I enter develop (I select the photos I want to edit and compare so I can easily switch between them). Then, while in develop, if I create a virtual copy, it will switch my active photo to the previous selection instead of the newly created virtual copy.

I have attached a screen recording to a reply above. (just ignore the duplicate reply that links back to this convo)

I have taken a screen recording of this issue and uploaded it here:

I select three photos, enter "Develop", and create a virtual copy. It then brings up the next photo. I use my mouse to go back to my newly created virtual copy and create one more. Once again, it moves my selection forward. How do I make it stay on my newly created virtual copy?

Can you assist this new member. I suspect as a new member, editing reply's may be out of bounds. In the reply a link is placed that unfortunately links to the discussion, not a video.

Hi there, you would be correct about editing! The above comment was a duplicate that I cannot delete. There is actually a comment below this one with a working video that shows the issue. It only occurs when more than one photo is selected, and when "creating a virtual copy" from the develop view (using either keyboard shortcut or menu option).

Here is an example attatched: I select three photos, enter "Develop", and create a virtual copy. It then brings up the next photo. I use my mouse to go back to my newly created virtual copy and create one more. Once again, it moves my selection forward. How do I make it stay on my newly created virtual copy?

Guten Tag, Windows Nutzer,

Google translation: "If I make a virtual copy with the right mouse button in the develop module after the last update, it no longer stays with the virtual copy 1 image but automatically jumps to the next image and I have to go back one image in the toolbar again and again.

Is this a bug or can it be adjusted. I didn't have it before the 11.4 update."

I don't see that problem in my LR 11.4 on either Windows 10 or Mac OS 12.4.  First troubleshooting steps:

Try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

- If that doesn't help, does rolling back to LR 11.3.1 fix the problem?

Ja das Problem bleibt leider, ist nicht behoben. Sehr nervig, bitte den Fehler beheben.
