P: Remove tool clone and heal is missing source handle

Community Beginner ,
May 23, 2024 May 23, 2024

Copy link to clipboard

Copied

When using the clone and heal options of the revised remove tool, Lightroom automatically picks a source area as previously, however there is now (Lightroom Classic v13.3 on Windows 11) no way to change this manually.  The drag handle doesn't appear when hovering over the source area.  The tool overlay is visible, I can see both the source area and destination.  The destination area can be moved and dragged, the handle appears when the cursor is over this, but not for the source area.

We've opened at ticket it investigate.

Workaround: It appears that disabling the "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing: setting in Preferences>Performance will restore expected functionality until we can get a fix released.

Hello everyone,

Same problem here : since 13.3 update (no problem with previous LrC version), the source zone of correction/heal stamp tool cannot be moved ; there is no hand cursor in order to catch and move the source zone and when clicking on the source zone, instead to permetting moving the zone, it draws a new one.

Workaround consisting in switch to "100%" then coming back in "Fit" in the left column can supress temporally the bug.

Turning off "Use smart previews instead of Originals" is working too.

LrC 13.3 on 2019 iMac Retina 5K 27" (macOS 12.7.5, 8x3,6 GHz Intel core i9 9900K, 40 GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8 GB HBM2 VRAM)

Same issue for me. Are Adobe working on an update to fix this? The heal tool is still really useful and a lot quicker in a lot of instances than having to wait for new generative remove tool to generate stuff. I want both of course its just the heal tool is nice and quick

That fixes the same issue for me as well but this is obviousy a bug introduced with LRC 13.3 that I hope will soon be addressed in 13.3.x.

Having the exact same issue - turning off smart previews resolves but would like to be able to edit with smart previews.

So the generative brush/clone tool has been implemented..  works a treat on some images..

But.. the old clone and heal stamps have lost the ability to drag the source stamp..

You used to be able to click on the area you wanted healing or cloning, then Lightroom would pick what it thought the best source area.. if it wasn't suitable, you could click on it and drag it to a better source area.

Now though, you can't drag it - it just creates a new heal / clone stamp..

This is on Mac OS Sonoma. Not sure if it's affecting Windows version too.

Same problem here with windows 11 v13.3, last version worked fine. The work around is not viable to me, which is uncheck the working with smart previews. This is a pain in the... I basically need to put it at 100% mode and work around it, a task that would take me seconds, now takes a minute or more. Hopefully Adobe will fix this soon

Unchecking ""Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing" and restarting allows me to drag the source area even though no handle is shown in the source but only in the destination. Moving the cursor over the source changes to a hand icon for dragging, so the work around is working on a Mac running Sonoma 14.5 with Lightroom Classic 13.3.

I've uploaded the new version of Lightroom Classic and the healing tool is not working properly.  In the past, I was able to move the recommended healing area (versus the one given to me by Lr) by right clicking and dragging to a new area.  I am not able to do this anymore.  There is no "handle" appearing on the "suggested" healing area.  I only get a handle on my selection.  How do I now drag the area to the new area of my choice versus what Lr is wanting to Heal/Copy?

I am having the same issue with both the heal and the clone tool in LRC. I have also tried updating, uninstalling, reinstalling, reverting to an older version (which wouldn't allow me to open any catalogs, even old ones, so that wasn't a viable option). Tried doing the 100%/Fit trick and nothing. Checked Preferences and already had smart previews disabled so tried enabling them, closing, re-opening, and still nothing. Then disabled smart previews again and still didn't fix it. I'm in an office and one other user can't replicate the issue on their computer while one other has the same issue as I do but it seems to be sporadic when it happens while I cannot get mine to go away at all. Also, can't do a screenshot or video to share on here due to work confidentiality, so don't ask, but Just know that you are not the only LRC user with this issue currently.

I never lost the ability to move the heal/clone source/target, but since the latest update I am unale to FINELY adjust them.  Any relocating of the sample/target areas can only be made in large distances (I'm estimating 10px or more).  Trying to align these areas along any kind of edge in an image is now impossible!  I am using Windows 10 with a trackball mouse zoomed in 100x-300x.  Prior to this update, things could be relocated to the pixel level, but now (no matter how long I click and hold) they only move when I drag them large distances.

Unfortunately, this solution does not work for me.  Use Smart Previews wasn't on (and never has been) .  Turning Smart Previews on, testing, zooming in and out, exiting, restarting (30 second wait), testing/zooming, turning it off, exiting, restarting (30 second wait) still fails.  All with zooming in to 100% then back out.  Iscatalog backup required on exit?

This is on a Windows 11 23H2 machine, LrC 13.3, all Windows and driver updates applied.  My video card is an AMD 6600 so this is not just an NVidia issue.

Just updating this for those who are working on a fix in the hope this might help- none of the work arounds posted have worked for me yet. I have found that the heal/clone tools do work and have the source handle only when the size is above 25 and even then, you have to find a very specific spot within the source zone for the handle to appear. Working with Mac OS Sonoma 14.2.1

Having the same problem as everyone else with the Heal and Clone tools in LrC.  It was working yesterday and today it is not.  Not sure when LrC updated to 13.3, but I think it was a few days ago.  I suspect the sequence was that it failed after I used the AI Erase tool for the first time since the update to 13.3, but cannot be sure.  This is kind of a deal-killer for me, as I need to use Heal and Clone frequently and using AI for everything really won't cut it.

Related to this may be what I have seen the past two days, that Lightroom keeps disabling seeing the handles of masks. I have it set to ALWAYS show handles and mask outlines, but they suddenly disappear and I have to re-enable that option. This happened three times last night.
