P: Selection Flickers Off During Refinement, Obscuring Generated Results (GenAI)

New Here ,
Jun 09, 2025 Jun 09, 2025

Im having an issue with generative AI fill where the selection that I draw disappears in my "refine selection" selection. Only the selection disappears, but it still works when I prompt it to remove. Oftentimes I can brush back over it and it will begin to show what my previous selection was.

The video shows that when I brush back over the selection, it selects my previous selection, but it does not stay selected. It continually disappears, but will still generate content there when prompted. It makes it difficult to refine the shape around an object when I cannot see what I am generating.

Hi @daring_personality0882 and anyone else experiencing this — thanks so much for flagging it!

We’ve been able to confirm that this bug is affecting Windows machines (Mac users seem to be in the clear), and we'll be working on a fix. Really appreciate your patience while we sort this out.

We’ll keep this thread updated as soon as we have more to share. Thanks again for bringing it to our attention!

Cheers,
Alek

Hi @daring_personality0882! Welcome to the community!

I tried to reproduce the issue on my end but haven’t had any luck so far. Could you share a few more details about what’s happening? Knowing which version of Lightroom Classic you're using would be super helpful. Also, does this happen every time or just occasionally?

If you're able to record a quick video showing your full screen while the issue occurs, that would really help us understand what’s going on.

Thanks so much!
Alek

Hi @Aleke,

I was able to recreate it twice. At 0:25, you can see that the selection disappears and doesn't reappear until I draw over it again, which uncovers what was originally there from the selection.

I am on Lightroom Classic Version 14.3.1.

This only happens ocassionally. Sometimes I can edit a whole photo without it happening, but sometimes it is even worse than what I show in the video for a single photo. I have had it happen where I will have to brush over the selection more than 5 times to get it to appear.

Thanks for the help!

-Ryan

Hi @daring_personality0882! Thanks so much for sharing the videos — they really helped clarify what you were seeing. I totally get it now and was actually able to reproduce the same issue on my end!

From what I’ve tested, it looks like this only happens when using the Remove tool brush near the edges of the image. I’ll go ahead and pass this along to the team so we can take a closer look.

Really appreciate you taking the time to report this!
