P: Smart Collection view order is lost

Create a Smart Collection that shows at least 20 pictures in grid view

 

View - Sort - Label Color

View - Sort - Ascending

 

None of the cells must be colored

 

Use the scroll bar to show the 1st. row

 

Click a cell an press “9” to paint it blue.  Repeat this 5 more times to paint non consecutive random cells

 

Every colored cell must go to the first rows

 

Now: Click a non blue cell, drag it and drop it on it self

 

Result: the color order is lost

 

Note: This situation doesn’t happen if you repeat these steps in a folder, the problem arises just in smart collections

    This is an older bug that is no longer reproducible under the current Operating Systems and Lightroom versions. We are closing this bug. Should a similar bug arise, please create a new bug report. This thread will be closed.

      To build on drobitan's reply: When in a regular collection or a folder, dropping a photo on itself keeps the current sort order.  So it would be consistent for smart collections to behave the same way.

      It’s easy: 

      If a cell is dropped on itself, means that nothing has changed: keep the original order of the cells (just do nothing)

      If a cell is dropped elsewhere changing its place, activate the custom order


      Dropping a cell on itself seems to be meaningless, but it happens sometimes while using the Wacom Pen with a very sensitive tip that seem to miss contact with the tablet.  This situation scrambles all the cells!

      What would be the expected behavior here? Honor the Custom Order or honor the Added Order?

      A simpler way to reproduce this behavior:

      1. Start in Library Grid view.
      2. Select any smart collection that shows at least 2 photos.
      3. Do View > Sort > Added Order.
      4. Drag one of the photos on top of itself.
      5. Observe in the toolbar at the bottom that the sort order has changed to Sort: Capture Time.
