P: Transform [Update] button stops working after application of [Previous]

Explorer ,
Apr 24, 2025 Apr 24, 2025

After updating LR Classic to version 14.3, the "update" button in the Transform panel stopped working after using the settings from the previous photo. Transform remains wrong even after selecting a different option (vertical instead of auto, etc.) and the Update button remains white.

Using your instructions, I am not able to replicate what you are seeing. I am not certain I have your reproduction steps absolutely correct either.

Can you provide more detailed step-by-step instructions for reproducing this?

Edit the first photo to taste and use "auto transform", then go to the next photo and press the "Previous" button to apply the same edits. The transformation needs to be updated to accommodate the second image, but it's not working now (would be perfect to automate this like AI masks).

The update button stays white, each transformation looks wrong, as if LR took the values from the previous image after selecting a different transformation option (level, full,...)

I selected two images with different tilt to see the effect - the second image can't be automatically flattened, after using the settings from the previous one, only turning off the manual or the wizard works.

I observe the same misbehavior in 14.3 / Mac OS 15.3.2, whereas LR 14.2 behaves correctly. Precise steps for reproducing the problem:

1. Download and open this catalog, which contains two photos:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/50fftiuluo6eneyip2ub9/previous-transform-auto.2025-04-24.zip?rlkey=a9...

2. Select the Quick Collection.

3. Open 1.jpg in Develop.

4. Click Transform > Auto.

5. Move to the next photo, 2.jpg.

6. Click Previous.

7. Observe that Transform > Auto has been selected (correct) and that 2.jpg is tilted nearly as much as 1.jpg (correct).

8. Click the Update button and observe no change in the photo (incorrect).

9. Click Reset and then Transform > Auto. Observe a very small change in the photo (correct) that doesn't match the result of Previous followed by Update  in step 8 (incorrect).

10. Repeat steps 1 - 9 with LR 14.2.  Observe that at step 8, clicking Update produces the same result as clicking Reset followed by Transform > Auto (correct).

Screen recordings of the steps with LR 14.2 and 14.3 are attached.

Thank you for the confirmation. I tried it on 10 images in my gallery and it remembers the transformation from the first image without the ability to transform correctly.

One solution for me is to hold down the "Option" button and click on "Reset Upright".

This clears the data from previous image and now the photo can be properly transformed.

Same. Only happens after you paste "previous" edits though. Doesn't happen if you only paste other panels settings, of if you paste nothing at all. Hoping for a quick fix.

In the most recent update to Lightroom Classic (14.2) I am unable to update the file after making a lens distorton adjustment. I have reverted to the previous version to temporarily solve this problem. Please advise . Thanks so much.

This update messed up the 'Update' feature in the 'Transform' category to straighten vertical lines.  Need that fixed asap, as it's critical to the photography I provide clients.

@OBXErskine

Can you please explain what is messed up? Please provide step-by-step instructions how to get the problem to appear. I am not seeing any problem on my Windows 11 PC, LrC 14.3

Don't see my reply here any longer, so giving it another go:

The 'Update' feature under 'Transform' seems to have been 'unplugged' with this update.  Would appreciate a prompt fix.  It is used often to straighten vertical lines.

Thanks.  Learning my way around here.  🙂

The 'Update' button under Transform when having a preset of either 'Auto' or 'Vertical' doesn't function for me after this update.  I provided a photo in a duplicate post (not giving me the option here).  When clicking 'Update' it would 'fix' any slight off-balance the photo may have, and straighten the vertical lines.  Make sense?

Please explain what you mean with "I am unable to update the file".

When I correct lens distortion in Lightroom you have to "update" the correction to reflect the change. There is a "update" button to press. When I press the "Update" button it does nothing.

Transform does not correct lens distortion, Lens Corrections does that. Transform corrects perspective distortion. That is why I was confused about what that 'Update' was.

Its so frustrating that the Update in Transfom panel is not working after 14.3 update. Did anyone find the solution? We need another update real soon!

Temporary solution for me is to hold down the "Option / Alt" key and click on "Reset Upright" to reset transformation. After that can be the image properly transformed, this works OKish for me and i wait for the fix....

I didn't say I was transforming an image. I was making a lens distortion correction. When you correct perspective or lens distortion you have to "Update" the image view in either case.

Since LR Classic version 14.3, the “Refresh” button in the “Transform” module no longer works for me. This error does not occur with 14.2.

Ever since my Lightroom Classic automatically updated to the 14.3 update, my transform panel is not working. It is not allowing me to auto adjust the upright settings, or any settings within that panel such as the vertical or level tools. It is making it impossible to edit galleries for clients.
