P: Unable to backup catalog in Lightroom 4

I have not been able to backup my catalog in Lightroom 4 since upgrading two days ago. I did not have this problem with 4 beta. It runs through checking integrity, backing up, and optimizing, and then I get a message that it was unsuccessful and to make sure I have enough space and check directory permissions. There is plenty of space, and I have tried to create it to two different drives without success.

I am using the 32-bit version with Windows 7. The size of my catalog is 1.7 GB and includes my previous LR3 and LR4 beta catalogs. Thanks.

This issue has been fixed in Lightroom 4.1, which is now available. To download the 4.1 update, go to the Help menu in Lightroom and choose "Check for Updates".

Thanks,
Ben

I am now having the same problem regarding backup catalog. I keep getting the message:

"Lightroom was unable to back up the catalog named “xxxxxxxx”.
Please check your folder permissions, and make sure that you have available space on your backup drive and main catalog's drive.

I am running OSX 10.8.2, 24GB RAM, 900MB free on (external RAID) hard drive, LR4.3.

Interestingly, if I quit LR, then restart, and try to backup, seems to work some of the time.

Same exact problem as describe in this thread since upgrading to LR 4.3.

Catalog backup works as long as Check Integrity and Optimize are unchecked. Fails 100% of the time if they are not.

Win 7 64 bit, 8GB, about 150k files, 1.8GB catalog. Plenty of HD space on host and backup drives. Backing up to a network drive but doesn't seem to matter from the thread above.

My symptoms are exactly the same as this thread:

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...#

Catalog backup at exit fails if Check Integrity and Optimize are enabled. Works otherwise.

I'm using the latest LR 4.3 release (no prompt to upgrade currently).

Windows 7 64bit, 8GB ram, LR 4.3 64 bit, Plenty of HD space on backup location. Catalog size: 1.8GB.

Hi Andrew,

Can you send me your catalog? I only need the catalog file itself, not the photos. If you zip the catalog file it will get much, much smaller than 1.8 GB. Then you can upload it to dropbox.com, yousendit.com, or a similar service, and post the download link here. Let me know if you need any help with that.

Thanks,
Ben

Sorry for the delay. Long story short, windows refused to copy the file, no idea why. I made the mistake of deciding that upgrading to windows 8 was a good idea (its not. it sucks. don't do it. it is the most horrible windows yet). Anyway, while it is a disaster in just about every other way, the problem no longer happens in windows 8. If you would still like my catalog I can zip and upload it.
