P: Unable to enter Copy Name

Is the image in question a virtual copy?

"Copy Name" is for virtual, copy's.

No, it isn't a virtual copy.
But it works in the past for me without a virtual copy and I use it for my workflow.

If I create a virtual copy it's the same, but I can rename the copy name in the virtual copy.

This is another instance of a class of metadata bugs introduced a few versions ago when Adobe re-engineered how metadata was displayed. Those other bugs were fixed quickly, but this one apparently hasn't been reported until now.

The workaround for this bug: After entering the Copy Name on one or more photos, select the photos and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File.

Tested on LR 11.4.1 / Mac OS 12.4.  See the attached screen recording of these steps to reproduce:

1. Download this catalog (containing 3 pics), uncompress it, and open it in LR:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/o1ddfrczxg28b6l/copy-name-bug.2022.07.21.zip?dl=0

2. Disable the option Catalog Settings > Metadatata > Automatically Write Changes To XMP.

3. If Copy Name doesn't appear in the Metadata > Default panel, click Customize and add it.

4. Select the first photo and enter "444" in Metadata > Default > Copy Name.

5. Observe that the smart collection "Copy Name == 444" now contains that photo.

6. Click on the second photo and then on the first photo.

7. Observe that the first photo's Copy Name is now blank (incorrect).

8. Do Metadata > Read Metadata From File and observe that it now (correctly) displays "444"

1   Lightoom Classic 11.4.1

2  Windows 10, version 21H1 x64

3   Steps to reproduce:  Create virtual copy in library or develop module, by right clicking image or drop down menu.  Right click copy name to overwrite default (copy 1 etc). Enter new name. Press return. New name displayed, as you would expect.  Navigate to another image.  Return to new vitual copy.  New name gone, replaced with copy 1 etc.

4  Expected result - name is as I changed it.

I use this feature frequently, & have never had this problem before.  Very had to keep track of versions without being able to name them.
