Suddenly the ai noise reduction in lightroom classic does not work, what is wrong?
Finally some useful info. That sounds like Lightroom might not have permissions to write to the folder, or perhaps the drive is almost full. Denoise creates a new file, so Lightroom needs to be able to write that file to disk. The error suggests that it can't for some reason.

I have another issue. I took a number of photos on my iPhone 14 Pro Max using the 48 MP ProRaw setting and then imported them to Lightroom as ".DNG" files. However, when I went into Lightroom I was unable to use the Denise AI to remove noise. When will Adobe make this available to iPhone photos? Also, I noticed the Shift-Double Click sets the White Point but does not when applied to setting the Black Point. Why? Many thanks!

AI Denoise only for standard (not compressed) RAW, either Bayer, or FUji X. DNG would have to be full Adobe spec (if). When will Adobe expanded use?? Not for us common users to know.
Shift-Double Clcik Black Point. should work. Try again, LrC can be pickey at your mouse clicks.

It kept giving me the same message.. I tried resetting Lightroom with no success BUT what did work for me was going into Adobe Lightroom 'Preferences'. Down to "Performance". Then under Use Graphics Processor, I selected Custom instead of Auto and Checked off the first 2 boxes ("use GPU for display" and "use GPU for image processing").
That works

Thank you! It worked for me with a slight difference. After I clicked on Custom, the first two boxes you referred to were grayed out, so I just restarted. It works now.

Wow, Anthony. Thanks a lot. Solved. I was looking for a solution here and other fora and did not find anything really useful. Your solution worked for me (at least at this moment). I think this release the load of GPU of my computer, and all is going better.

I increased my cache size a couple of GB - then cleared both caches - works again
You can find this under Preferences / Performance

I've been having issues with this for months now, even the Adobe tech that remoted into my computer couldn't figure it out, and you got it!!! Thank you so much, your advice was the only one on this entire thread that actually made Denoise start to work again for me!

Looks like many of us have had similar problems with denoise and yet no solution in sight. 😕

Same, it started like a week ago now I think. I click "Denoise" let it run, I click apply let it load. And bam it says "There was an error writing the file".. Not sure what to do. I've restarted it and my computer a couple times. Never came across this problem..

Could this be fixed in release 13.2 that was just made avalaible?

It seems you have to use Denoise before you go to PS. If I try Denoise after a file comes back from PS into LR as a tiff it will not work, the button and word "denoise" is sort of grayed out and you can't click it. Denoise will work on Canon CR files.

I have found that stopping the use of the graphics card in LrC solved the problem. 💁
And yes, my video drivers are always up to date.

I got the same problem. But I had a solution.
I did a AI NR batch of about 91 photos on my AMD workstation with RTX 3060 GPU and excellent specs and plenty of space on SSD and up to date Studio Driver. But six photos got listed in a pop up with that dreaded "unknow error - denoise not applied"
I started disabling GPU, removing a config film of the GPU, restarting LR... nothing helped. The error kept popping up.
Then I made a virtual copy of one of the photos to toy with it and see if things change. I removed the healing brushes. No effect. Then I did a complete reset on the virtual copy and then applied AI NR... et voila it worked. It applied it without any error pop up. Now I had my fingers crossed that it would do the same to the original file.... I first copied all the settings and adjustments made to it.... reset the photo.... and then paste the setting into it. And succes. It did. So now I did this process for the six listed in the error and it was fine. It's quite ridiculous and I don't understand what I did, but it worked. But its going to be a pain in the ass if it's going to be a way longer list of photos I need to manually reset & copy/paste their settings.
Adobe get it together.
My 2 cents.

I haven't had the problem since disabling my GPU. 💁
I also have problems with the simple crop tool with the GPU enabled.
(And, yes, I always have updated drivers for my RTX card)

In my case, disabling the GPU had no impact. I guess there are multiple reasons why the error is.... unknown.
I doubt my GPU had problems with six out of 91 photos. It's very random, those photos had no special edits applied to them.
I don't appreciate randomness. Not in this context.

I agree on the randomness (or unpredictability). 😠

I fixed that issue on my computer by turning off GPU performance enhancer.
I'm on a Windows 11 computer.

Normally I would request that you post your own discussion as opposed to replying a "Me to". It has been a year since the above posting was placed, and their has been two LrC updates since, (13.2, then 13.3, then bug fix 13.3.1, then 13.4). Not to mention, what is your OS? (original poster has MACOS)
But I will ask the following:
Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.
