Are there indicators to know your folder is in a collection without checking collections.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Folders are not in collections, only images are. Every image is stored in a folder. An image can only be in one single folder. Collections are a kind of list. An image can be in as many collections as you want. Compare this to a membership list. As one single person you can only be in one place at a time. But your name can be in the membership list of the local photo club, the local football club, the local chess club, the local library and many more lists.

Folders are never part of collections. Only photos are part of collections.

You can have a collection with the same name as a folder. That can be done manually of course, but a special way to do it is if you drag a folder from the folder panel into the collections panel. What happens then is that a new collection will be created with the name of that folder and the images inside that folder. Maybe that is what you did.

The icon/badge shown below will be displayed for photos that are in collections in Library Grid.
(and in the Filmstrip if you have 'show badges' enabled in preferences)
Note: Badges are not shown if the library grid size or filmstrip size is set too small.
Clicking on the badge will display the collection(s) that the photo is in.
A checkmark is displayed by collection name if you are currently in that collection.
You can jump to a collection by clicking on the name.
Edit: for Library Grid the Thumbnail badges need to be enabled in Library View options- Grid View - Thumbnail Badges
