AVG antivirus is slowing down Lightroom Classic

Explorer ,
Jul 10, 2024 Jul 10, 2024

I had to switch AV software, whhich solved the issue, AVG used to perform well, not cause issues, but I concluded it was AVG that slowed down LIghtroom, Firefox, including the latest versions.

It could take seeveral minutes to load Lightroom, and had to wait several minutes before I was able to switch pictures, as the software did not react.

I had user interface issues.

Pc even froze completely at times.

Lightroom Classic versjon: 13.4 202406181129-60d181b7

  1. Windows 11 Pro, Intel Core i9 11900K, RTX 3090Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz 64GB
  2. using the software in general, everythign was slow.
  3. Lightning fast software.

Solution: Switching AV software.

Solution: Switching AV software.

Many Anti-virus software programs allow you to change/modify what folders are scanned for viruses, so you can tell it not to scan the photos and not to scan the folder with the catalog file. Usually that fixes the problems with Lightroom Classic. Does not AVG offer that option?

May I ask what antivirus do you now use ?

Everything I was doing in Lightroom Classic would result in 4 instances of AVG running at high percentage CPU, even though I've added Lightroom folders (library, cache, program, etc.) in the exception list of AVG. Even disabling AVG by right-clicking on its icon in the system tray and turning protection off would still result in high AVG CPU usage whne using Lightroom. Only when I removed AVG completely did Lightroom Classic ran much faster. I'm presently only usinng Windows 11 defender but I'm not sure this is good enough.

I am not an expert on the Pros and Cons of antivirus software. I'd be willing to bet that there are plenty of AVG users who don't have problems like you described and maybe there's a simple fix to that. I am always in favor of looking for fixes rather than switching software.

Nevertheless, I use BitDefender on Windows 11 (and before that on Windows 10) and it causes no problems with any of my software, including Lightroom Classic.
