Building Smart Previews (on import or manually triggered) bogs down and never completes

I'm doing a rather large import (3000 images) and the processing gets stuck at the Build Smart Previews step.  The images are successfully imported to the catalog and destination folders - it's the previews step that stalls.  Lightroom is gobbling memory until the system becomes unresponsive.  I tried manually requesting smart previews on the folders of images and had the same result.  After 20+hrs it finally just stalled and I had to kill Lightroom. 

I've successfully imported large groups of images like this before with no issues, and the import and preview build takes < 2hr.

While you wait for a relevant answer to your post- Can you tell why you want to create Smart Previews? For what purpose? Are they necessary for you?

LR isn't recognizing the presence of any graphics processor in your hardware. While LR doesn't use the GPU for building smart previews, this could be a related symptom of an underlying problem. So I think as a first step, we should remedy the GPU issue:
 
1. Click the Windows Start menu.
2. On the Start menu, click Run.
3. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
4. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Post here a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of the entire Display tab, e.g.

What is the make and model of this computer? Based on what I see in that system info, I am surprised LrC v13 would install. Something is very very wrong. Or this computer is very very inadequate.

LR runs correctly (though typically very slowly) without a GPU present.   You can boot Windows into Safe Mode With Networking to prevent LR from accessing the GPU, and even Denoise runs (though very, very slowly).  

 

But as I indicated above, I agree that we should address the issue of an apparently missing GPU.
