When I load images into LRC as RAW the software recognizes the (Nikon) lens I've used and adjusts accordingly.  However, sometimes I shoot in JPEG  for events.  Then, when loaded-in, the software does not "see" the lens.  Is this an exif data thing? Is there a camera setting I can change to help LRC?

Almost all lens profiles are for raw only.

You can easily make a copy of the raw lens profile that works with JPEGs:

Of course, that will only give reasonable results if the camera isn't applying any kind of lens corrections to the JPEGs.
