You have a Student & Teacher version. I wouldn't doubt Adobe retired the serial numbers from that type of product. Are you still a student or a teacher?

Retired? I used this serial number few months ago. I will be graduated on next year so Im still a student technically.

Then perhaps you aren't entering the correct number. It is 24 numerical character long starting with 1160. Miss typing on of those character will generate an erro like what you are seeing.

How come I put a wrong serial numbers since I already registered?
None but two since I format the entire computers.

None of them are activated. If so, then it should notify me first.
My internet speed is fast and stable. It shouldn't happen for three times.

If you can see your serial number listed on https://accounts.adobe.com/products then copy/paste from the webpage into the LR5 serial number box to make sure there's not a typo.

Did you deactivate LR on your computer(s) before reformatting them?

That's what I've been doing from the beginning.

You've been deactivating LR since the beginning?

Lightoom 5 didn't use activation. It was introduced in LR 6.
So I think we can rule that out as the cause of the problem.

LR 5 doesn't enforce a 2-user-limit every time you start up the program, but it does check licensing each time you install it, so any issue you're having with the serial number, including Adobe deciding to add a time-limit to Academic serial numbers, won't be discovered until you try to install, again.
Since we don't have any details of what Adobe says during the chats or phone-calls, it's hard to tell what might be going on. Can the OP copy/paste a transcript of their chat with Adobe in a reply, here?
I notice that the only version of LR 5 you can download from Adobe, now, is LR 5.7.1, and whatever that program does during install could be more strict than the original LR 5.0 installer, so an idea would be to try installing the older LR 5 version from the install media and see if it'll allow licensing, then update to LR 5.7.1.

I've been trying to solve this issue with staffs but all solutions didnt work at all. I spent more than a month and nothing ever solved. This is very disappointing and one of staff told me the only solution is to get a new serial number. But I didn't get her responds since then. What kind of service is this?

Did you solve this? I just upgrade my computer, fresh installed LR 5.2 no problem. However when I update to 5.7 I get the exact same problem you are experiencing. I uninstalled 5.7 reinstall 5.2 from my CD and I'm back up an running. Really sucks that I can't update to 5.7.

I purchased a student/teacher edition way back when. The only difference at the time was that it was necessary to submit student or faculty or staff ID via e-mail in order to obtain the serial number. It took about 3 min. to complete the process. There was no difference whatsoever in the program.

I figured this out thanks to another post that lead me to this page New Adobe Lightroom 5: Direct Download Links + Difference vs. LR4 | ProDesignTools
This link from the above webpage worked for me. I'm now running 5.7.1!!
