Change photos for a new book after book printed

New Here ,
Sep 04, 2023 Sep 04, 2023

I completed a 200-page photobook and sent it to Blurb thrilled with the result.

Now I need to change about 20 photos and a few words and reprint the book again for somebody else.

Can this be done?  I'd really appreciate knowing how. My friend who is dying is keen for her mother to have a copy of the book. Rather than sending a copy of my book ( with me being the focal point), I want to change to include more photos and text of her. Which would be far more meaningful for her family. We did a 3000km bike ride together just a few months ago.

Any help is appreciated.

Can it be done ? Yes. And my ideas to do it would be this-

1) It is important that you have created a 'Saved Book Collection' in the Collection Panel with your book design, then-

2) Make a Duplicate of the 'Saved Book Collection'   ( [Right-Click] > [Duplicate Book]  )

3) Return to Library module View - Add the "more photos" to the 'Saved Book Collection-COPY' by dragging from the Library.

4) Open this 'Saved Book Collection-COPY' in the Book Module.

5) Add new pages, etc, with the photos on the filmstrip you added in Step#3

6) Send to Blurb

Thanks Rob I have given that a good try but don't seem to find the words you have written.

As far as I know I haven't created a 'Saved Book Collection' nor can I find it written about anywhere.

Should I have done this "Create Saved Book" I cannot find a way to do that now I have the book sent to print which makes a huge job if I have to start this book again from scratch.

'The Create Saved Book" I have seen above the images in the book. But this doesn't seem to be there once the book has been sent to print.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Regards Jeanette

When you select photos and choose the Book module from the top module menu- You will see a tab at the top-right of the screen.

Clicking this Tab creates a special "Book" Collection in the Collection panel. I call them "Saved Book Collections". They use a small icon that looks like a Book. With a Saved Book Collection having been created- the tab will disappear.

If you have never created a Saved Book Collection, then your book design has not been saved, and I doubt you could recover your book in another LrC session. Using the top Book module menu will always start you in a new book design.

At any time in the future, if you want to return to continue a book edit, or alter its contents, you MUST ALWAYS r-open the Book from the Saved Book Collection. (NEVER the top Book Menu.)

It is a Saved Book Collection that you can make a duplicate from that you edit independently.

Thanks for letting me know I obviously didn't save the book the correct way. While I have no choice but to make the book again as I have promised the family it is a hard lesson to learn.  I have made several books and been pleased with the finished result but LRC isn't friendly to use , hard to find answers when working.

Thanks for letting me know what i needed to do.  This will be my last LRC project too demoralising.

Don't let it be demoralizing! By gaining the knowledge to understand how Lightroom-Classic works you will find it far more pleasing.

Like you, my first book, was a failure, but 20 or so books later they are so easy to produce.

Rob I have just had a thought. I did buy the pdf for my book so I do have that. So can I recreate the book using the pdf and then change the necessary photos?

I do appreciate your help. This is my fourth book and the one I did on Iceland was bought by a few travel agents who specialize in Iceland.  I have just stuffed up by not saving. I wont make that mistake again.

I am hoping that you will say I can use the pdf!! i can send it through to people and it looks just like the book so fingers crossed!! I will look at the info you have given me once I get this book for Kelly done.

"I can use the pdf!!"  Basically that is a 'No'.

Might only be possible if you had an App like Adobe Acrobat where you could slpit and insert new pages into the PDF. (Acrobat Experts- Is it possible?). But you still only have a PDF, and not the Book available to re-edit in Lightroom-Classic.

"once I get this book for Kelly done"-  And have you already created a 'Saved Book Collection' ???  as in my post 6th Sep.

Hi there no I did not save it. I sent the book to print and have bought several since. It is still available to view in the book section as shown in the photo below. But there is no ability to do anything else.

It appears you might have hidden the Header Bar above the book pages window.

Press keyboard back-slash key [ \ ] to toggle the Header Bar on/off

Or MENU: View > Show Header Bar.

You MUST [Create Saved Book] if you want to preserve all your work on a book.!!!
