Changes not syncing to classic

New Here ,
Dec 29, 2024 Dec 29, 2024

Hi! If anyone can help.. I reorganized my Lr mobile albums. I renamed some of them and added main folders with folders inside. The changes have synced to my other Lr mobile devices but not to Lr Classic. I've tried restarting Lr Classic and that didnt work. Lr Classic version 14.0.1 and Lr version 8.0. and using macbook pro. Thank you for any help or ideas!!

What exactly did not sync? Folders in Lightroom are like collection sets in Lightroom Classic, but they do not sync between them. So any reorganizing of albums in different folders will not sync to Lightroom Classic. Changing an album name should sync, however. The corresponding collection in Lightroom Classic should get that same new name after syncing.

Hi! Thank you for your help! I changed the folder names in Lr CC. I deleted a couple albums I dont need, but didn't change any album names. (The deleted albums from CC are still showing in Collections in Classic.)

I also changed some folder names and added folders under those. For example I moved all Clients to one folder, then in the folder are folders Clients YEAR for each year. I was trying to clean it up.

Do I need to change the Collection Sets name in Classic to match what I did in Lr? I thought it would sync back?

Thank you !!Screenshot 2024-12-29 at 8.20.27 PM.jpg

After testing, I see what you're saying, thank you! Album names and edits are syncing. I'll just need to change the folder names in Classic to match what I did in Lr.

Correct. If you want your collection sets in Lightroom Classic to mirror what you see online, then you will have to do that manually in Lightroom Classic. And by the way: if you delete an album in Lightroom, then I think that will unsync the collection in Lightroom Classic, but not delete it.

Thank you sooo much! Can i ask you 2 more questions here? If I should start new question just lmk.

When I started with Lr it was Lr CC and then I changed to Classic after a year or so. I assume my issues are from images stored back then..

#1- I can't figure out what is in my 16GB out of 20GB storage. Smart previews don't count, correct? And that's all I want to do. I've removed over 1000 synced photos and deleted quite a few saved PS projects that I can access from mobile. This 16GB # hasn't changed in years. I also want to make sure all originals are saved to my external drive.

#2- All Synched Photos. I have 23,000 synced (75000 in catalog) but only a couple 1000 that are set to sync in Collections. I think a lot of these are from before I started using classic. Is there an easy way to find and remove those not in a collection, or should I unsync all of them and then turn back on in the collections? (I'm also guessing with the new smart collections I can redo my workflow..)

I really appreciate your help 🙂

#1: Smart previews do indeed not count. Photos taken with your iPhone do. In the Creative Cloud app, under "Files', you can see what else is in there.

#2: In Lightroom (not Lightroom Classic), start typing 'not in any album' in the search bar. You do not have to type more than "not" to get the option to search for images that are not in any album.

You can add them to albums from there, no need to unsync and resync.

#1 I haven't added my iphone photos. That's next on my list so my images are all in the same place, so that shouldn't be taking up storage. I deleted more of the PS files from Creative Cloud, files. The 16GB didn't move. (Rough count is about 4-5 GB under files).

#2 Ok great. This gives me 7,000 and I see they are mostly not the final edits. It gives me the option to delete them, not to remove from sync. ? Screenshot 2024-12-30 at 10.00.11 AM.jpg

Edit:: I went to each file and permanently deleted them. Now I'm down to 13.9 GB so I'm making progress.

If you delete them in Lightroom, then that removes them from sync in Lightroom Classic. It does not delete them in Lightroom Classic. If you want to delete them in Lightroom Classic too, then mark them as rejected in Lightroom, let that flag sync and delete the rejected photo in Lightroom Classic.

Hi again! I deleted the 7000+ in Lr and immediately my storage dropped from 13GB to 3GB (bingo, found it!). Did I have 10 GB of images that weren't on my hard drive? Or were they something other than smart previews, that I can double check? I know they are saved for 60 days so I can get them back. The ones I've looked at so far are in Classic & on my external..

Every Lightroom image in the cloud is also in Lightroom Classic (and so on your hard drive) somewhere, because Lightroom Classic downloads everything.
