Converting Lightroom Classic Preset to Profile: problem

Lightroom Version Number 13.5.1 Operating System Windows 10

When using LR 13.5.1 & PS 25.12, following instruction using Camera Raw to convert, ends up with a profile that creates a B&W image. I’ve tried various presets, always same result.

Any clues?

Like I also said in the LightroomQueen forums; post a screenshot of how you convert the profile. Without knowing what you did, we can only guess.

1. Go to the Camera Raw interface
2. Select the Presets tab and choose the preset you want to convert
3. While holding down Alt (Option on a Mac), click the New Preset button in the bottom right corner of the Presets tab
4. The New Profile dialog will open
5. Name your profile and create a group for it if you want
6. Click OK to save your profile
7. If Lightroom is open, you'll need to restart it to see your new profile

What almost certainly went wrong here is this: In step 2 you apply the chosen preset to the current image in ACR. Then the new profile will be created from all the edits in that image, not just the edits in the preset. So you are not really 'converting a preset to a profile', you apply a preset to an image and then create a profile from the result. That means you must make sure that you select an image that has no existing edits when you do this. Most likely you selected an image that you had turned to B&W, and did not realise that this choice would also be included in your new profile. You may even have included some existing masks, which would explain the 'ghost image' you see.

Afraid not, the image chosen was a raw image not edited in lightroom.

So how did you get it in Camera Raw? And please post screenshots! Quoting a procedure is meaningless if we can't see that you followed it correctly.

I've tried both ways opening in Lightroom then click edit in Photoshop & directly opening raw in photoshop then opening camera raw. Both same result. The steps mirror same as all the advocated ways from various sources.

OK, you don't want to post screenshots to show what you did. Fine, have it your way. That means I cannot tell you what you did wrong, only that you did something wrong. From what you say I get the feeling that you are using the Camera Raw filter on a raw file that is already opened in Photoshop. Depending on what your preset does, that might be wrong. You should use the Camera Raw plugin as it opens the raw file.

I just tried it myself and the profile is created as expected. No B&W, no ghost image. The only thing is that I use a Mac, so if there is some strange problem only in Windows, then I can't tell. Maybe some Windows user can verify that, I can't do anything more because you don't let me.
