Crashing my computer and shutting it down

Both Lightroom and Photoshop keep crashing and shutting down my laptop. I use a very high quality laptop. I have used other softwares to see if its the computer but they have not crashed or shut down my laptop. I even tried gaming and streaming to see if it would crash, but nothing, works perfectly fine. So it has to be the Adobe software. Im using Bridge, Photohshop and Lightroom and I use them together. I have a i7, 16gbram, and a high graphics card. I have a lot of memory space to not crash and a brand new SSD. So it HAS to be the software. I have seen that this person also has had the same problem
I have spent the last 24 hours online with various agents at Adobe who cannot resolve the problem. They have fresh installed the apps more than once. They have reinstalled my drivers for my GPU several times. Every other app on my computer and web browsing are all fine.
The last agent rolled back my apps to older versions but that has not resolved the issue.
Please help urgently...

Both Lightroom and Photoshop keep crashing and shutting down my laptop.

Crashes causing the computer to shut down are either driver problems (bad/corrupted or out-of-date drivers) or hardware malfunctions. So re-install all drivers (graphics driver, motherboard driver and any others that may be in use) and run diagnostics on all hardware.

Brand new hard disks can malfunction. But also, I said to run diagnostics on ALL of your hardware, have you done that?

Hi, yes I have. The Dell diagnostics say there are no hardware issues. The drivers are all up to date and have been uninstalled and reinstalled and re-updated. I am desperate now. It looks like I have to scrap my computer and I can't afford a new one. I have not updated the BIOS because that looks difficult to do and I don't want to mess up. I am waiting to see if I can get someone to do that for me. However, I am getting overheating warnings for the CPU. Can BIOS affect that really?

First up, please share your LrC System Info as well. BUT please not so complete, most everything after plugin info (and plugin info is important) just eats up space, and is of little help to us non super techs. Following is my SOP on that:

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

Second, odd that PS is crashing, not so much as LrC as PS is a pike compared to LrC in using computer resources. This leads me to think about Windows Events. Please use the Events Viewer to look for event failures related to the crash. You may want to first run LrC, PS, etc, and wait for the crash, so you can look at just the latest events Share what you find.

Thank you. All of the drivers have been freshly updated. This is not a hardware issue. I have had my computer fully screened by an IT technician at huge cost two days ago.
I can barely stay in LR long enough to get information before I have a system crash. I have uploaded a txt file that should have the information you require. I am sorry if there is too much.
I don't know how to use ethe event viewer. This is beyond my expertise. I have tried and I just see pages of information that is meaningless to me. I will attach some screenshots.

This is a hardware issue or a driver issue. That's the only thing that will cause the whole computer to crashes and restart.

This one might point to the issue. Could be a Windows permission issue.I am short on info to fix.

Screenshot (22).png

Notice the statement to look at the Security and Maintanace control panel.

see:

https://www.dummies.com/article/technology/computers/operating-systems/windows/windows-10/how-to-che...

Does that show something useful?

P.S. You stated you paid good money for an IT tech? That IT tech should have resolved all events issues of note.

I don't know what to do. I pay for every app I use. I pay for Windows and all their stuff. Nobody can find a fix. I am beside myself now. I have already clean installed Windows and everything else.

Got of my rear end, started my Windows 10 workstation, Brought up my Events Viewer, as to remind me how to simplify research in it.

When you are in the Events Viewer, you can click on the top item, "Event Viewer Local" and a summary will be displayed. In this the Critical and the Error sections are of note.

My Events Viewer Display (example)My Events Viewer Display (example)

If (in my example) you clcik (when at the computer) the + next to Critical, it will expand, and you can see the critical errors

my examplemy example

Note how few critical errors exist. Could be 0, but apparently I had a power issue of some sort this week. Double click on the critical error and:

3.png

Note above how some info on what went wrong is provided. Hmm, was this during a security/sys update? I do not remember a power crash. WIndows events are not always 100% correct.

You may also want to look at Errors, Your example probably came under Errors. Note that some errors might be transitory and of no importance

4.png

Those Kernal Events bother me, may relate to an update process. But I note a similar Application one.

5.png

6.png

Now I am not having issues with LrC or PS, I am not having crashes.

Oh, and alternativly, Instead of looking at Event Viewer (local) look at Summary Events:

7.png

THe above one relates to LrC, most of mine relate to LogiOptions (a very poor app)

Point of abvove is a walk thru on a way to look at your events, looking for an issue. Your IT should have resolved susch.

Thanks. I have spent 4 days solid on this. My IT technician has given me a new SSD and more RAM. He has checked all hardware and all is working perfectly. The only programmes that do not work are Lightroom and Photoshop. I have reinstalled Windows. I have reinstalled PS and LR and this is still a problem. My IT guy has done everything he can. There is nothing more he can do. This is a software issue.

Hi again. I have done another five hour stint with Microsoft on a screen share. They went into places I didn't even know existed. They made sure that the correct GPU was assigned and that the specs were all in order. They made sure everything was up to date. So the IT guy ruled out hardware, Microsoft have ruled out OS because of extensive troubleshooting and 2 clean installations. All of my other programs and features work fine, I can stream fine, browse fine and the only thing that consistently causes crashing are Lightroom and Photoshop. I have been catching them as they freeze and shutting them down via event manager, to prevent any more BSOD. I am waiting for Adobe to have a higher level agent contact me as the case has been escalated. There have been several reinstallations of Creative Cloud. The waiting is hard because I can't do any creative work, and that is making me crazy. Thank you for your help.

SECURITY AND MAINTANANCE

I see the link I provided may no longer be helpful. Following is a walk thru on bringing up Security and Maintenance.

Bottom right, that Start icon, right click on it, left click on Run, type in Control, Click on Ok. THe Control Panel should appear. Click on Security and Maintenance.

However, I am getting overheating warnings for the CPU

1. Are you running this laptop on battery only?

2. Have you inspected the vents for dust, etc?

3. Are the vents obscured? Something blocking them?

4. In the Windows OS have you altered the power mode to high performance?  (an option to increase LrC oerformance) Might not be advisable on a laptop, could draw too much electricity and overheat.

5. That NVIDIA GPU, is it set up to use more power when running PS, or LrC. Not affecting your CPU, but could it be putting off more heat near the CPU.

Hi, thank you. I will answer questions:
1) No, I use it with the power cord most of the time. I live in South Africa and we have daily planned blackouts 3 times a day for 2.5 hours at a time, and then I use the battery.
2) The laptop has had a complete service.
3) Nothing is obscuring the vents.
4) I am not sure if this has been attempted. If it is not advisable for reasons it could overheat, then I need to check. How would I find out?

5) I'm not sure what the answer is to this question. How would I find the answer to the first part of this question please? I can ask the IT guy if the GPU is getting too hot too close to the CPU.

Thank you. It is running in "balanced" mode. If I understand you correctly, this is preferable, rather than the "high performance" mode which would heat things up even more in a laptop?
