Deleting All Synced Photos from Classic (but keeping them on Cloud)

New Here ,
Nov 23, 2018 Nov 23, 2018

In Lightroom Classic, running on my desktop, how can I remove the photos under “All Synced Photographs” WITHOUT deleting from the cloud and Lightroom CC?

(Basically, I’ve synced my Lightroom CC photos with a Lightroom Classic catalog that I don’t wish to contain those photos. But now, when I try and delete them from Classic it mentions it will delete from all synced devices including Lightroom CC.)

Slightly confused and maybe I’m missing something obvious...?

Thank you.

Are you using both CC and Classic with the same images?

You can't. If you delete an image from 'All Synced Photographs' in Lightroom Classic, you will delete it from the cloud. The only thing you can do is not sync that Lightroom Classic catalog anymore.

When in doubt try it out... take one image and delete. Then check your Lr Web CC catalog. Not sure how you are syncing your CC catalog with a Classic catalog.

There is no doubt. An image that is removed from 'All Synced Photographs' will be deleted from the cloud, period.

Thanks for the replies.  I understand that "syncing across devices" always comes with a bit of file management confusion, but it is a shame that once the photos are synced with Lightroom Classic the program overtakes control of the "cloud photos" without giving the option to just delete from the open Classic Catalog.

Given how Classic and CC still operate as two different programs (and can be used in multiple different ways) I hope this is something that adobe address in future updates.

According to Victoria Bampton (Lightroom Queen), who is pretty well-plugged-in to Adobe, "no new sync functionality will be added to Classic..." However, if enough people provide feedback in the official Adobe feedback forum where Adobe wants all product feedback, they might change their minds. So be sure to post your opinion.
